Welp. I wrote something. :joy: I don’t know why it’s always a depressing thing with me.

Summer Fling

The warm summer breeze stilled, leaving behind the sunny thoughts of the day as a chill swept over the Miera and I as we stood on the cliff’s edge. I looked over at her, taking in her long blonde hair which was swung over one shoulder as she nervously fidgeted with the strands. I sighed once more, threading my fingers through hers. “Miera, do you have to leave?”

Miera turned to me, her face drawn. “Leo, I wish I didn’t have to, but I have an army to leave. A country to run.”

My eyes stung at the mention of her responsibilities. I always knew our love would be short lived, but there was a little part of me that wished she would choose to stay. I should have known better.

As if sensing my thoughts, Miera smiled grimly. “Don’t be sad Leo. I’ve had the time of my life with you, and if I didn’t have to leave, I wouldn’t.” She turned her galaxy eyes to me, and smiled sadly. “I love you Leo, but this just can’t be.”

As I stared into her swirling purple eyes, it seemed as if the world beyond them disappeared. I could get lost in those eyes if I wasn’t careful, and I no longer wanted to be careful.

Mustering my breath, I reached out, caressing her smooth cheek with my thumb. “Aviad is healed, why can’t you stay with me? He can lead your army to victory without you.”

Her smile dropped and her swirling eyes darkened, the glittering sprinkled within disappearing as she frowned. “I made a commitment to my people. I can’t fail them now, when we’re so close to succeeding.” Her hand unlaced from mine, and flew to her shoulder, still bandaged and sore from the very event which brought us together. “I must go.” She stepped forward, and I could feel my heart break in two as she stepped towards the cliff’s edge.

As she reached the drop off, she glanced back, smiling sadly. “I will be back Leo. Whether it be in five days or five hundred years, I will make it back to you.”

I nodded, trying with all my might to stop the tears which began to prick at the corners of my eyes. Miera looked back, blowing a kiss before she stepped off the edge of the cliff and disappeared.
