Hmm, I don’t really see the problem. Everything is coded correctly. Does this happen when you preview it on web previewer?
If yes, then test it out in app. Maybe it’s just a glitch.

Have you tried previewing in the app? I know that sometimes in the portal it glitches and either doesn’t show the effect or it looks like white glitches across the bg.
I had the same problem. What worked for me was to layer a character on layer 1 and an overlay on layer 2. It didn’t work otherwise.
I didn’t want the overlay to show so I just changed its opacity to 0
