Kidnapping & Abduction in Stories = Triggering?

So I’m trying to understand better the topic of Kidnapping and Abduction, mainly the ones portrayed in stories.

  1. What is the difference between Kidnapping and Abduction? I googled it and that didn’t really help.

  2. If Kidnapping or Abduction is used in stories, should there be a warning, or more a trigger warning? Can it be triggering to have the MC being kidnapped or Abducted?

Please no hate, I’m just trying to understand more. Please give me your versions of the answers! Thank you :heartpulse:

I completely agree with you. There should be some sort of warning if kidnapping or abduction is used in a story. Again this is my opinion, so other people might think differently. That’s my two cents :woman_shrugging:

From what I understand abduction and kidnapping are very similar. I’ve found this if it helps?

When a person is kidnapped, he or she has been taken against his or her will usually through forcible means, by threats against him or her or in some way of deceit. There is often an intent by the perpetrator that harm or injury may occur, but the person may expect a lengthy detainment. Kidnapping is usually accompanied with a ransom for money or
other gains. However, a crime of abduction is considered to be when a person has been taken away from his or her original location by persuading him or her, by some act of fraud or with a forceful way that may include violence. Both crimes are very similar, but charges are quite different when issued against the accused. It is important to ensure the right charge has been issued to guarantee a court case commences with less difficulty.

I would add a trigger warning as it could be a possible trigger to some people

Hope this helps a little

This does help actually, thank you!
By what I understand, if you catfish someone in to meeting you at the park then tell them to get in your car (for example) is abduction. And kidnapping is well kinda like in gang stories when the person hasn’t paid for their drugs or something and the gang kidnaps them cause they gotta pay up.

I think so, it somewhat sounds like as you have explained abduction is personal (they want the person) where kidnapping seems to be more about gaining something from it.

I do actually have my own story in the end it was a misunderstanding but it was still very scary. I’ll blur just incase of triggers

I was 19 and was running late for college so I called a taxi. The taxi came and I told him where I was going, He started to drive but took a wrong turn, I politely told him that I asked for (college name) he just bluntly answered “I know” and carried on driving. I said to him “I think you have taken a wrong turn.” He didn’t reply and carried on driving. I was silent for a minute before saying to him “where are you going?” He carried on driving and said “don’t worry you’ll be fine.” At this point I was panicking and thought he was going take me somewhere and god know what would happen. I decided to text my friend telling her that I thought I was being kidnapped, she thought I was joking and gave a silly reply. I tried asking him again but he ignored me. I remember feeling sick and the fear was extreme that’s when I noticed we were near my college. Turns out the normal way where most people go had roadworks so he had to take the long route. But as he didn’t explain that I was terrified!

Yeah actually explaing it as personal vs gain makes it much more easy to understand!

Also, I’m sorry you were in that situation but I’m glad that it turned out to be nothing and you got to the college safely. It is kinda odd that he wouldn’t tell you tho hmm

Glad I could help

I think that’s what caused my panic the fact that he wasn’t telling me where he was going, maybe because he wasn’t very good at English?
I look back on it now and think it’s strange how the body and mind reacts to situations like that because even after I knew I was safe it took a while to calm down from the shock. Anyway like I say I’m glad I was able to help  ps if you’ve got any stories at the moment I’d be happy to take a look… I’ve run out of things to read :frowning:

Actually that is true, our bodies are like fearful when we think there’s danger but really there isn’t. Kinda an interesting thought actually

Also, I have many many many (I literally counted over 100) unpublished stories in my portal that are waiting to be finished. I’m such a big procrastinator but I’m working on publising a few. So atm I don’t have any published ones, but if you’d like, I can message you when I do!

 sure and I am seriously the same :joy: I currently have loads that I gave up on so I his them from the portal and then I have 3 stories I believe would make a good plot. And sure
