Layering characters and overlay help!

I want characters in front of and behind a background that includes an overlay. I know normally you can just use the command @overlay moves to layer __ and @character moves to layer in front of the overlay, but how do I get a character in front of an overlay that’s already in the scene?

If you’re talking about an overlay that’s attached the background, you’d have to use the background name as the overlay name.
