Well, they tried to relase Ivy, a more mature version of episode for that kind of stories but it didnt leave beta
It didn’t leave beta mainly because audience was too small to properly test it. It was available in only few countries and I believe only for Android since I never seen it on App Store.
Of course it’s sad that they don’t let us express more mature content in app for more mature people so it makes me mad when people from community are being asked by Episode to fix content they find “sexual” even if there’s nothing to “fix” but let authors working for them for this type of content.
I get that their “target” audience is at age when they start their first relationships but why they can’t publish stories with shown healthy relationships instead of romanization Stockholm Syndrome and other disorders caused by abuse with abuser.
If they want people to stick with guidelines then they should also do it first.
YES. Episode is hypocritical. They themselves have stories that go against their guidelines as well as allowing particular authors to get away with this too.
But just because they do, it shouldn’t give you a free pass to think “f*ck it I’ll be just as bad”.
We all know there are young users on this app, and as authors (and as adults, in many cases) we should strive to do better. The guidelines are there for a reason - you can still have an amazing, successful story without the need to turn to taboo/dark themes…
Exactly! Trying to count their contet that breaks the rules its tiring. What about their story love on fire? Its very sexual. They didnt animated it but put a background and told what its happening pretty detalied. So just to read that kind of stuff makes it better? I guess they are so focused on telling other people to “fix” their stories and keep searching wich ones to ban next that they forget to check their own stories, and if you try to say something they just ignore you or delete your comment
Also the app should be at least +15 i mean at 12 you shouldnt be reading this kind of stories, it makes them think its normal at that age to have a relationship but its not, wtf they arent even full teens yet
And in this way people could post more stories with different genre (mystery/horror/thriller/comedy/others) with more interesting content without worring about the rules. I mean, its still limited here since theres only so many animations available, not even close to the jumpscares you sometimes get from tv movies
Yeah I’ve read a couple of story’s that had me blush lol and I’m a married woman lmao I am new to the forum and creators world and I’d heard about the favoritism but never thought I’d actually seen it until recently. Unfortunately I wasn’t expecting the community to be so cut throat lol I see authors bashing other authors for maybe a scene they disagreed with, but their stories are ten times worse. Make it make sense.
Yes I know. Small authors read popular stories to know what will get them big, and then the episode community is polluted by things like this.

I felt so broken for the longest time because I didn’t have an active s-xual life while being in a relationship, because that’s just the standard. “You don’t have s-x, means your relationship is failing.” And people still go on with their “it’s just a story, it’s not real!” when they don’t understand that stories reinforce all the sh-t we already have to deal with irl.
S-x sells especially when it’s so taboo, and kids will do anything just to get a glimpse of what it’s all about. “Who cares if it’s toxic, they’re doing it!”
It’s so utterly sad that a fictional relationship is worth reading about only if there’s s-x involved, whatever its form. But like I said, it sells well, and that’s all Episode as a business cares about. They need guidelines to be sure that Google and Apple will allow their app on the stores, but will promptly turn a blind eye if a popular story is ‘borderline’ inappropriate (according to their rules), and will also do the same with every new story that is doing fairly well by following the same scheme.
For everything else, they’ll say it’s inappropriate for its s-xual content, or they’ll find another excuse to reject it. And then we have people saying Episode is now mostly trash. You don’t say ![]()
Good points!
If you were on the app around when Mean Girls was the new and popular thing, the Episode originals (especially the earliest ones like The Secret of Rain by Joseph Evans), were actually pretty decent and followed the guidelines. I’ve seen Episode be successful without all the sexor inappropriate stories with millions of reads. (I’m not saying that these inappropriate stories didn’t exist until now, but that Episode seemed to control things better a few years ago.)
The good times :')
I mean at least it is accurate to their ads am I right?
no false marketing here
A lot of people don’t realize that you’re not always gonna be s-xually active in a relationship. Even if both partners are allosexual, it’s completely normal. It happens to literally everyone, and if it hasn’t happened yet, it definitely will the longer the couple is together. There’s nothing wrong with the relationship if you and your partner are going through a dry spell. And if going through a dry spell makes someone love their partner less then
maybe it not love.
I also hate when people use the dry spell to say they’re being neglected in a relationship and use it as an excuse to cheat
. I see that way too often with ppl irl.
Right?! Sex is a bonus perk I think. You don’t need it to be happy and at times it can cause a horrible addiction to sex.
Plus can we normalize waiting for sex as a teen too?
preach!! :)
I’m not entirely sure but multiple sources said what I thought but i do need to do more research into it
You have to remember that anything with a PG rating can have adult situations (such as rpe, mental health, sx etc.) But you can’t be explicit about it if you get me?
So for example you can have a couple in their underwear kissing in bed but you can’t describe the sexual act (so technically they’re making out not having s*x). You can describe the emotion they feel towards each other (stuff like “when I first saw him, his eyes sparkled in the light”. Sorry for the cheesy sentence).
Or in r*pe storylines (you’d be surprised how many teen around 12+ range know about it), again you describe the emotions, you don’t describe what happened (always put a trigger warning and give an option to skip).
Same with mental health and mafia. It is possible to write about adult situations within the PG12 age range but you just have to be careful how you write it if it makes sense
Yes, i agree. But I have come across rpe scenes countless amm0unts
I have too and they put way too much. But focusing on emotion with an option to skip is ok
Yes, of course!
