Hi guys! So I’m in the process of writing a mafia story, but I wanted to know some things people like and dislike. Also, if anyone has any advice or tips feel free to let me know!

I’m kinda confused, do you mean likes and dislikes in mafia stories or just normal stories?
Just thing you like and dislike in general. It doesn’t have to just be in mafia stories.

For Mafia Stories Alone...(What I DISLIKE about them!)
- The romantisization of those stories (MC/LI is in the mafia then the MC/LI falls for the each other
- Toxic/Abusive LIs
- Stereotypical Characters (i.e = Gay Best Friend)
- Wrong representation of Mafias
- Down playing Mafia leaders and how dangerous they really are
- Ignoring important Mafia rules of membership (i.e = The Omertà)

Well, i’m alright with mafia stories as long as they don’t reuse the same cliché/storyline, and no toxic love interests or characters.
However, what i find interesting is the plot twists, and how the character’s develop in mafia stories, and try to make your story different than others - like you can include romance, but write it in a unique style and make it like readers won’t stop reading!
But, you need to ensure the characters don’t portray awful depictions to the audience, and keep it pg13 - or just warn the readers beforehand. You could attempt to make one of your protagonists a good character, but they were forced into the dangerous life and want to escape from it, and the other character helps them out, and you get the rest.
Just rethink about your plot, several times!

In mafia stories
Dislikes - Romance, making readers feeling sorry when the character even when they are in the wrong and a lot of Italians hate how they are represented since they are affected by it and the characters usually look nothing like Italians
Likes - 
Wait I am supposed to find something to like about them…
In stories in general
Dislikes - Toxic LI, MC’s who get jealous when someone breathes next to the LI to go call them a sl*t (the fact readers also agree with this behaviour 
) and stories that show that the author doesn’t know what they are doing when it comes it coding.
Likes - Respectful LI’s and MC’s, cute romances and stories that you can tell there is hard work put into them.

Stories In General (What I DISLIKE about them...)
- Stereotypical Characters (i.e.= Gay Best Friend, Blonde Mean Girl & Her 2 Minions (I’m blonde and I hate this stereotype as well as the fact that blondes get called ‘Dumb’ just because of our hair colour)
- No Diverse Characters! I mean seriously! Even if u just do a little research and speak to a few people here about their culture/language/sexuality etc… Then u can still have diverse characters. I’ve even seen stories where the whole cast is the same skin colour & I’m talking about all the background characters too!
- Misrepresentation of diverse characters! Do authors find it so hard to do research! I am an author so nobody say ‘U don’t understand how hard being an author is’ because I do and it’s really not that hard to reach out to a few people who know about what your trying to represent or do your research
- Comedy stories that aren’t actually ‘funny’

I like mystery stories the best and I like stories with a good plot.
I dislike stories that use gem choices for a piece of clothing or something like that (not including support the author gem choices I don’t mind when authors do this!)

I really like when the MC is kind of a daydreamer and has lots of thoughts only the reader gets to hear - makes me kinda smile and feel closer to them. 
I really dislike singular conflict. whether it be the MC trying to solve a problem, two characters falling in love, etc. I get really invested in a story when there’s multiple levels of conflict going on for the MC
