I think it’s meant to be an over the shoulder type of hairstyle. 
Though, in hindsight they really could have made the back of the hair better reflect that.

I mean you don’t need the hair pinned for it to be over the shoulder. They could have done the back better but when your hair is over the shoulder it would give the appearance of being “curved” like the picture you pointed out.
