Those are actually really good, I’ll definitely add them! Thank you so much!
No problem! If and when you publish this story, would you mind tagging me? Your story seems like one of a kind and I kind of want to read it. :))
Thank you
Of course! Thank you for saying that, it means a lot to me. I’ll definitely tag you.
Few Indian names:
Abhaya : Fearless, another name for Goddess Durga
Aditi : Free and unbounded
Anasuya : One who’s charitable (thought I’d add this one since she seems like a person who cares for others)
I really like these.
Check out this site if you want to find more names.
Your story sounds really interesting and yes, these practices are still common in rural India. Such people are regarded as “curse” and are killed by their own family! Sometimes people also go to the extent of blaming the mother (and it’s always the mother who’s blamed) for bearing such a child and call her a “witch”.
I love the name Aditi and Anasuya! Thank you for recommending them! Sheesh, seems like I’m gonna have to add a lot of names.
And yes, it also happens in south Africa, I believe. I saw a documentary where they said that people with these conditions were believed to have magical body parts, and they could be sold for millions or so in the black market.
More names mean more if/elif/else codes. Woah
Hats off to you!
Yes, I’ve heard so. ![]()
[big gulp] hopefully it’d be worth it
![]()
I’m sure it will
I think I’d just go with the easier way by giving her the name that you want to (and also making that her display name, but putting that into the code so that it can change if the reader wants it to):
NARR
The MC’s name is _________. Would like to change this?
choice
“Yes, I’d like to change her name.”{
gain NAMECHANGE
input What is your name? | What is your name? | Done (ORIGINAL NAME HERE)
if (ORIGINAL NAME HERE is “”){
NARR
You need to have a name.
}else{
}}”No, I’m happy with her name.”{
}
You could explain to the reader of her name, its meaning and the character’s ethnicity + culture before presenting the choice which could influence some readers to keep her name the way it is. ![]()
Then later:
If (NAMECHANGE){
#Scene with dialogue here where the name has been changed, so you’d use “[ORIGINAL NAME HERE]”.
}else{
#Scene with dialogue here when the name has NOT been changed and doesn’t require the rigid brackets.
}
I also wanted to share this thread, since it could be an alternative that might appeal more to you?
I think this is a great idea!
Using a choice, and then using the variable name to reference the name every time is the best option, as opposed to if/elses etc.
Oh gosh, I’ve already started coding the other “not so easy” option. Hm, I’ve got a lot of thinking to do on which one I’m going to pick. Thank you though! The thread that you shared will come in handy.

@LaurelleE27 Thank you for your input! It’s appreciated.
No problem and good luck with your cool story.
Thank you so much!
Dhara: Mother earth, land.
Sweta: White.
Gauri: A goddess.
Bhoomi: Again Mother earth, land.
Meenakshi: One with fish type/small eyes.
Those are really good, thank you!
No problem
so I dont think you should give name option espically if its not CC, and since she is Albino indian, it sound like you arent.
Oh okay, thanks for your input!
