Yesss! I agree with you, I really enjoyed Black Panther! So funny and definitely educational about African culture. There was a post on Tumblr that showed some of the outfits they wore in some scenes vs. the real thing and it was spot on. But yeah, I really want to see more popular stories with main female/male black characters! <3

I’ve heard this side of the argument and think I can explain it well enough- they believe that we should be pushing for all minorities to be represented and not just African Americans. Generally speaking. A few of them are just racist arses.
As a non-black minority myself, I believe that the struggle that African Americans have endured through history is uniquely theirs and highly different from the struggles other minorities have faced, and as a result, it’s not racism pushing for them to be represented, but rather supporting a movement that has gone ignored far too long.
Yes, all of us deserve to be represented, and not just by one character in a feature wearing a saree (cough cough Haute as Hell), but seriously, it really annoys me when people try to claim racism and entirely ignore the historical context behind things like Black Lives Matter or even just behind better black representation in the media, something that’s been misdone badly most of the times when it has happened.

I agree! Quick question: Have any of you watched ‘Dear White People’? May be a bit off topic, but I’m curious - would you ever like to see an episode version of it or would that be a terrible idea?

This is a great take and I’m glad you understand! Well said. I also believe that all minorities should be getting the spotlight and showcased more in the media, but it’s like whenever we say we want something for us, people (like you mentioned) always try to take the attention away from us/tell us no and that we should advocate for everyone! That’s true, but come on. Let us have something to ourselves for once.

Would that be something people would like? Usually people are against copying TV shows on to episode. Also, Episode doesn’t have many hairstyles that would match the characters, but it’s something I could try if people want me to

Yeah, I know. That’s why I was hesitant on doing it in the first place. I was kind of suggesting that episode should do it because they might be able to get around that issue, but also change it a lot so it’s not the exact same thing. Think of how they did Pretty Little Liars, maybe they could make the show like that. It was just an idea, but it’s obviously not going to happen.

I don’t think that should happen, I remember all the controversy. Which I don’t see why there was it highlighted issues within the black and white community, it wasn’t actually aimed at white people, but I see why people would think it was. (The title Dear White People)

Yeah, I’ve almost watched through the first season. It’s very controversial, but brings up a lot of touchy yet important subjects. I understand the controversy, I just wanted to bring it to see if people had watched it and stuff hope I didn’t offend anyone by bringing it up, but I apologise if I did

Oh my God, I know. I think that’s the part I got up too. Literally, just as that happened. I never remember the name of the MC either and I know it’s gonna annoy me all day until I figure it out
