Making a character do something in the middle of a sentence?

I’ve seen this been done in the story New Girl, and the characters do things in the middle of the other person talking. For example, let’s say Alex is saying something and then his friend Lola laughs or something after a few seconds of him saying it, without the reader having to tap the screen? Pleeeease help!
