More Representation (?)

Okay so this might be a weird question, but I wanna see more Episode stories that sort of ‘educate’ people about different chronic diseases.

For an example, like I have type 1 diabetes and there is a lot of ignorance surrounding it (I am using the actual definition of ignorance, lack of knowledge on it.) Which I totally get, I don’t understand Lupus because it doesn’t affect me, so I don’t expect everyone to know all about T1D. However, it’d be totally cool if people who struggle with chronic illnesses incorporated it into their stories (if they felt comfortable with it.) I’d love to learn how people who have health conditions cope.

Am I making sense? Can anyone direct me to stories like this? Not just cancer stories (I have mad respect for you cancer survivors) I’m just trying to broaden my reading.

Second Chance - Hiding the Truth has a character with type 1 diabetes. You’ll love it. It’s an LGBTQ story

Yes! That would be great.

I think Athsma for example isn’t represented correctly always either. (I have Athsma.)

Speak by J Miley is a mental health story. I haven’t read it yet but I’ve heard it’s a good story and Jen always represents different things quite well.

The Triangle by Ladybug is a good SA survivor story.

As for other conditions, I don’t have anything to recommend because most of the stories I’ve read don’t delve into such topics much if at all.

I have an upcoming story called Markings of the Mafia (it’s not actually a mafia story) where a lot of the characters suffer from different things: hemochromatosis, chronic fatigue, social anxiety and some of them are also SA victims. Just thought I’d let you know in case you ever want to read it in future.

I have two stories that center around bringing awareness to obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).

You’ll love the Second Chance franchise by Josie Jackson. She writes a wide range of conditions such as asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, autism. It’s brilliant. I don’t know why she isn’t being recognised more

There was one where the MC (and the author) has diabetes. It was featured, and I think it was called “Aligning the stars” or something along those lines.

Here are a few of my favorites which kind of go along the lines of something you might want to read.

  • Ten Steps To Her Door by Nelles features a character in a wheelchair

  • Last Moments by JayJay is about a girl who has cancer

  • At First Sight by Trishy features a MC who is blind

  • Speak by J Miley is a mental health story

  • The Big Great by Sugarfoot Stories has a MC with kidney issues and a LI with depression

  • The Gamer Girl by Wincy W: one of the LIs has social anxiety

  • Dare to Dream by Sarah Robbins has an important side character who has Alzheimer’s

  • I Need A Therapist by Clem doesn’t exactly focus on a specific disease, but its main goal is to educate people about certain conditions/mental health things while also having fun :upside_down_face:

I enjoy reading these type of stories. I’ll try to add to the list if I find or remember any others
