I like both writing and coding; I’ve been writing for myself for over a decade now (all in notebooks or MS Word), and I have some very minor coding experience (I used to be bad at HTML/CSS and I failed my last assignment in my Introduction to Python course
). I find Donacode to be really simple and straightforward when compared to “real” coding languages. After about 2 episodes, I haven’t really had any trouble with the coding.
My only weakness is digital art; other than cutting things out, my digital art skills are bleh, so I don’t end up with a lot of complex overlay action. Plus, I’m still standing on shaky legs when it comes to writing screenplays, I usually write a short story/novella first and then adapt it. And on top of that, I don’t always create stories that translate well to Episode’s visual platform (or even human senses…
). That makes it slow going.
I’m not sure if I’d be a coder for someone, since I like writing and coding equally for different reasons, it’d feel weird to code without writing.
Imo, there are only two things you’ve gotta know with Donacode:
- Get the syntax (wording) right
- Get your brackets in order
The rest is just, well, directing.
