I agree with everything you say, apart from the part where I need to give the mean girl a back story. No, I am not going to give a backstory to justify her horrible behaviour. As a character she exists to create drama, so I don’t want the readers to have too much sympathy for her because of her
“tragic past that made her act the way she acts”
