A serious post regarding the art shop’s status

Look, I don’t know what I can do to make my art-making here more enjoyable. I opened this shop to see if people like my art. It was a success and I am happy for that. I think of my art as very unique and something you may not usually see in art shops. I take pride in what I do and I am glad my effort has been recognized, but I am always striving for more. I wanted more for me.

See, in the past few days, I’ve been getting dms on instagram and here if I can draw them for free. I just say that I am closed, I don’t do xy, or I don’t accept requests at all. It was then that I realized I’m going back to a dark place where I treat myself as a robot who does nothing but art for free. And I hated that.

Requesters did nothing wrong. I love all of you, you were all so so kind and patient to my slow-paced request shop, and I am happy for that ToT this is just a thought that has been passing through my brain for weeks that I want to address.

Anyways for the conclusion:
I’ll still finish requests for batch 2 and 3, but it will take 3-5 months. (I dont know how to estimate sorry)
As for the notification squad, I am not so sure if I’ll open batch 4 :(( I know there are a lot of you, and Im so sorry to disappoint. I never say no, but I think I might say it to salvage a bit of my health. I am very drained this school year and we have no summer break so I’ll head straight to a higher class immediately, so it is a miracle I was able to finish artworks during class haha-

But feel free to leave replies on how do I make requests more enjoyable for me. I was thinking that I’ll make the slots around 3 or 2 instead of 6 in total per batch, and I’ll be very very strict this time around. Feel free to suggest!!

I think you should close shop for a while if you need to!
My ideas: how about taking commissions?
People love your art, I’m sure they’d be willing to support you, especially if your prices are reasonable.

Or, close your shop in September, and then reopen a few months later, which will give you time to recuperate.

I’m sure you’ll be supported no matter what you do!

You can always limit requests to the type of art you prefer. Maybe a certain pose that’s easy for you and that you enjoy. You could also open commissions, your art is definitely good enough. At the end of the day, it’s your hobby and if you’re not enjoying it there’s no point and I’m happy that you recognize that. If you want to close the shop, then do it! Of course its sad but it’s what’s best for you and that’s what’s important.

Some options:

1. Lowering your slots but not lowering the time frame of completion meaning, not saying to yourself “before I could do 6 in x amount of time, now I should limit myself to 3 in x divided by 2 or more amount of time” Basically you can lower the requests per a batch but don’t lower your time frame of expectation with it because that will only cause more stress.

2. Another option is take commissions which gives you money for your hard wokr, and amazing art.

3. Something I see on Instagram and the forums is shops have a set request open time period, where from time x to time y they are closed but from time z t time v they are open for requests and then close so they can actually fulfill the re-quests. This is something you could do commissioned or not commissioned. Leaving time for school and relaxation along with limiting the number of requests in time period z to v.
   Example: Request’s will be open in 5hrs, 5 hrs later you open the requests for maybe 3-6 people and then say “ty everyone for coming, requests by @goldpigs and @/idk will be completed most likely with in a 2 month period” and “if you would like to cancel you request please let me know prior to the start date of n which I will be working on your requests”, then you let everyone who didn’t get to request that if they would like to notified then they can.

The difference between you current method and number 3 is you have a stricter time frame.

Art can be stressful at times. Try going on a break for some time (As long as you need) and if you do come, limit your requests and if you get more motivation, increase one every time but make sure you don’t stress out. Hope you feel better soon :))

Pls b proud of how much u did tho! I open art shops when I have I inspo, then quickly close them again, when I run out

pls don’t feel forced to reopen again/reopen more than 1 slot. I honestly can’t imagine the stress… also, spending ur summer making art for others, when ur not feeling it is pointless.
