Hey guys! I just wanted to say hello again. I know I haven’t been as active as I have been in the past and I’m sorry about that. I’m a sophomore in high school and I’ve had a lot going on this year. Anyways, I wanted (for such a long time) to come back and start doing the discussions again because it’s so fun to hear from everybody! I hope everyone has been doing well. If not, I hope everything is alright and will get better
For this week’s discussion, I decided to just do something simple. What’s going with you guys? How are you? Catch me up on what’s going on in the community!
Thank you for visiting this thread. Have a great day/night! xx
and as always,
All the love,
Neha!
I got a joke
Welcome back!
I had a difficult essay, but I’m finally finished, so that was the main topic for me for about two weeks
I’m doing well and I’m enjoying life and college. Happy that I finally can go to thrift stores again in my country (I missed it so much, haha). Decorated the walls of my room a bit, a finishing touch after I cleaned my whole room. Now it feels like my special place again
Hope you’re doing well too! x
@hannahfriend What’s the joke? :))
@LiliStar thanks, I’m doing alright! I’m glad you’re done with your essay. I hope it wasn’t too stressful for you!! (also, you just reminded me I have an essay due tomorrow lol)
Thrift stores are fun!! I feel like you can just spend so much time in there just going through a bunch of clothes and outfits. it’s like a pit of endless fun if you have shopping, clothes, fashion, and whatnot.
I’m glad you’re doing okay. Good luck with your essay
Why shouldn’t you mess with a dinosaur?
Hello ![]()
Meh.
School. Episode. Homework. More Episode. Sleep. Repeat. ![]()
Hihii ^~^
I’m fine, I suppose. Could’ve been worse. Just a ton of work to get through.
@LiliStar Thanks!! It’s almost done, just chugging along
@hannahfriend Why? (I don’t know
)
@juliewrites What a mood. It’s just so repetitive. can’t wait for summer break!! I mean my spring break is coming up in a week, but I would rather just have summer lolol
@Kyo That’s good to hear. I hope you’re not getting too stressed. xx
Nothing I can’t handle. I practically sustain myself on coffee, stress, self doubt and energy bars anyways! Like any teacher does, really.
Because you’ll get your jurrasskicked
. Get it cuz jurrasic:nail_care:
@Kyo are you a teacher? And yes, I feel you!! my coffee machine has been my best friend. Also my brother’s. (He’s in college and before he moved into his dorm, we got him his own machine) lol
@hannahfriend I get it!! Hahahha that’s a good one
Yes, I am ^~^ I teach what is my country’s equivalent to American high school!
The coffee machine is sacred. How anyone can survive without putting their bodies in caffeine shock baffles me to this day!
Oh ok that’s really cool!! Not many people decide to teach high school, we are a hard bunch.
(I’m in high school, a sophmore.) sadly ://
And yes, you’re right. Coffee is essential to survive life
I didn’t decide to do it either, but I interned at one a few years back and absolutely fell in love with it. The kids are just wonderful, even if occasionally testing ^~^ So my original plans to teach what I actually studied myself at uni fell through. Though, I suppose it helps that I have interests that the kids also have, like anime and sports and all of that. Makes it easier to connect ^~^! Sooo! You may be hard, but you’re soft as well!
Absolutely. Coffee is the true black gold, not oil.
Yeah. It depends on what you teach. It’s nice to hear someone who’s passionate. not many of my teachers are and it’s pretty sad because we end up suffering as well. I mean it’s not intentional, but it happens and it impacts us in the long run. Anyway though, thanks.
What do you teach? I’m just curious lol
(you don’t have to answer if you don’t want to)
And I completely agree! coffee is magicccc
Absolutely. I have colleagues that long have lost their spark, and in my eyes really shouldn’t teach anymore, but I think that’s somewhat natural. I do think most teachers were passionate at some point. But then again, one can’t be too sure!
I know my teachers when I was at this age all sucked at their job, but my school was the county’s worst as well.
Oh, I teach social science, history, religion and Norwegian. I’m not quite sure why I teach Norwegian though, I have no relevant diplomas for it. The other three subjects are all related to my Masters though, in philosophy.
Yeah I know right!!! but I guess since they have their tenure, they won’t leave. (I assume you have tenures, but not sure lol)
That’s really cool!! What history do you teach? I love learning about history. It can be quite boring at times, but actually really interesting at other times. it depends on what you’re learning about and for me, that’s US history
You sound like you are a good teacher, your students are lucky to have you!
Yeah, we do ^~^
Well, I have to abide by the curriculum! I teach antiquity to 8th graders, from Ancient Greece to Rome’s fall. 9th graders are taught about the medieval ages to the start of the 20th century, with extra focus on the Enlightenment period, the industrial revolution, the rebirth of democracy and the age of colonies. And 10th graders are taught the heavy stuff about the 20th century and the bits of 21st century we have, like the World Wars, the Cold War, the War on Terrorism… Lots of wars really. But I do add in stuff I find interesting as well, such as the second wave feminism during the 60’s and Simeone de Beauvoir, as well as the rise of technology ^~^ And, of course, the students are given a topic they are to dig deeper into, which they can choose themselves within the time period. So, practically I teach about 80% of Human history!
Aw, psh, i do t do it to be looked upon like that. I do it because I enjoy it! But thanks, I hope my students agree ^~^
Ohhh ok I see! that’s interesting that it’s so split up like that. For us, they split World Civ into two years. World civ covers Ancient Greece, the rise & fall of the church, the Crusades, Constantinople, etc. It goes up to like Modern day Syrian history. You do World Civ I in eighth grade and II in freshman year. Then, you go onto US History I, sophomore year, and US History II, junior year. Senior year there’s no history unless you decide to take AP European history. What’s your favorite historical event or time period to teach? to learn about?
P.S. (I’ve loved talking to you, it’s just been absolutely lovely!!!)
