Hello! I’m new to all of this creating my own story. After reading soo many great ones I decided what the hell, let’s give it a shot. I am curious though, as I’m working on my first story, how long did it take for you to learn all of the coding and finally get your story out. I’ve spent HOURS and DAYS on this story of mine & you could laugh at how little amount i’ve actually achieved. I’m not giving up, just maybe need a little motivation and or tips. Thank you & you’re more than welcome to drop your story, i’ll check it outtt. (:
I think there’s no specific time to learn all the coding or a way to learn all of it because it never ends, there are actually a lot of things you could learn but go to the basics… I guess it takes a while but not a lot. You can watch some youtube tutorials (I recommend you Joseph Evans and EllyT -something like that) or learn through the guide Episode has. Also, play with them. Sometimes while playing you can start doing advanced directing without noticing, whatever figures in your mind put in on the script and see if that works or not.
Now, talking about the story… Not everything is about coding, the plot is so much more important, so, if you have planned it and it is really nice it won’t matter how your directing is, all that will matter is how your story goes through!
Also, don’t let yourself feel intimidated by whatever thing people will say when you get your story out, stay with the good comments. There’s a lot of people that’s a bit trashy but don’t get them so much attention. Enjoy what you’re doing!

I’ve started writing a few years ago, back when there were no tutorials. It took me a whole year to understand most of the coding. But now that there are tutorials out there and stuff, I’m not sure how long it would’ve taken me if I started writing now. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
i’ve used a few of Joseph’s tips & he’s been a god send. It does make me feel a lot better knowing that it’s not something that everyone can just go into & do it perfect. I’m thinking of focusing more on my storyline & dialogue & then going back with all of the details & actions. It makes sense to do it that way. I used to write stories as a kid with my cousin & not to toot my own horn but they were super creative. haha. adding faces to the characters in our head is just sounding amazing & that’s what made me start this story i’m making now. (:
thank you so much!
Oh, another question. From experience does anyone feel like when you allow the reader to customize it makes them enjoy or want to read the story even more?. I haven’t added any customization to this story i’m writing, but I think I may add some soon. I know personally I like being able to customize, it makes it feel even more personal even tho it’s somewhen else’s work. If that makes sense. How does everyone else feel?.
Customization gives a point because, personally, I like to customize, too. However, as a writer (as for me) I find it tedious sometimes. If you wanna use it, I recommend you to add another character as the duplicate of the MC, in that way if you wanna change hairstyle or make the MC younger and with different features, is going to be easy.
same
I personally aren’t doing customization for my first story because I think that it might sort of ruin the plot like if the way the readers customize it, if they do it randomly, then it would be hard for them to visualize the real character going through the events of the story. It sucks that it’s becoming the standard lol! I know it’s very interactive, I’d rather add choices it’s also for READING!
I’ll be real- I learned by making BAD stories. Like I’m not kidding. I never published the first story I worked on, but it did teach me the basics of coding. Then I did the first three chapters of my ongoing story, and they were okay. Then I did a short contest story, and really focused on making the directing really good. And now I’m revamping those three chapters and released chapters that I’m proud of
I personally think you only learn from doing and that the first things you code probably won’t be good but it’ll be progess.
hey, I love the real feedback. it makes complete sense. you have to start somewhere even if it turns out horrible. haha.
hi love ! welcome to the community,
i myself am also new and trust me, i have barely anything done, but that’s okay it takes time to produce something amazing, with episode coding and directing can be a pain making it wayyyy more harder then regular story writing. i know three amazing youtube channels for episode writing, the links are below:
they’ve been such a help for me and i hope they work well for you too ! if you ever need help with anything please pm and i’ll be so happy to help. i’ve been a writer for a while now on other platforms and i assure you, everyone can write, it just take time. it can be a great yet stressful process but the outcomes are extraordinary. keep doing you, i can wait to see what you do with your creative vision ! x
