New Featured story: Not Your Ex

I don’t even know what else to say. I’m not sure what the point of purchasing this story and eliminating the entire premise was, and then introducing an assault prank and having the MC victim blame a LI… It’s all so much, and my reaction is so visceral. AT LEAST include a content warning. My word.

I think they ought to have taken the risk on a cheater LI, but even if they didn’t want to do that, they didn’t need to lean SO far into the other direction and brutalize his character in order to justify the breakup that serves as the story’s impetus.

Oh god, seriously poor Gonzalez, dealing with crappy people all around

You know, I actually just realized that they never confirm that sex didn’t take place. The ex says he didn’t do anything, but that’s because the teammates paid the girls and let them in. So he may mean he didn’t do anything in the sense that he wasn’t at fault, but he doesn’t remember what happened. It’s still possible to interpret the events as though his friends paid some prostitutes to rape him.

This is so vile on episode end. The original story was fine as it is. I don’t like nor understand why they are taking this route. And, if the ex was, in fact, raped then the MC is a bitch. I really hope this isn’t a subplot to make the second LI likeable.

I think it’s meant to make the ex likable. They probably didn’t want him to be too “at fault” for cheating so people wouldn’t ship the MC with someone who cheated.

The problem is… not being at fault for cheating means he didn’t choose to cheat, which means he didn’t choose to have sex. Which is… well, we all know what that is.

And even if they didn’t have sex, or if they did but he provided clear verbal consent, we don’t see that. All we know is that he doesn’t remember doing it or wanting to do it. We see a story about someone who doesn’t recall consenting but insists he wouldn’t have, and the MC rejects him as untrustworthy. Rape victims are so often accused of inventing allegations due to morning after “regrets.” Episode really ought to steer clear of anything resembling that scenario if they are going to treat the person in question as less worthy of love or trust because of the incident.

If they wanted to make the ex less cheat-y, they could have lessened the offense. Maybe he brought the girls home, then changed his mind and was in the process of showing them the door when the MC came home. I can think of a few ways they could have approached it that would be better than what we have. Leaving it the way Pippi had written it, for one…

Yeah, I completely agree with you and now that you mention it, I can see that they want the ex to be likable. But, the thing is he was still somewhat likable the way Pipi wrote it. He cheated which is a dick move and I ignored him at all cost, but he still could have redeemed himself. Based on the screenshot I’ve seen in the thread. Episode isn’t allowing the MC to actually hear him out? Instead, all the responses seem to be very dismissive which is throwing me off. I didn’t read after chapter one, btw.

She actually kind of accepts his explanation but says this:

So she acknowledges he wasn’t at fault but for some reason thinks he might give into temptation in the future since there will always be groupies (and apparently a-hole teammates) around when he’s on the road.

I definitely rejected the ex in the original. Completely iced him out and went away with Mr Moneybags instead. But we still got to see flashbacks of their relationship, and we saw the ex’s regrets while he was separated from the MC. And I actually liked the ex better as a character even though I was on the rich guy path. If she continues the story, I’m not sure who my final choice would be.

Not a bad response, but idk I would still be pissed at her for not believing me. But, I guess it would be the initial reaction not to believe someone who has groupies. This is so bad to admit, but the flashback made me lean more towards the ex as well. Moneybags wasn’t doing it for me. I think it was because he feel too quickly for me.

I can understand how she would feel conflicted. But at the same time, his story is so concerning that I don’t know how she can take off to spa land after hearing the details of what happened. In her place, I might not want to dive right back into my relationship like everything is OK, but I also like to think I’d be fairly concerned about the whole, “I didn’t want to cheat on you, but my friends paid some people to have sex with me when I was too messed up to even form memories” thing.

As for the original: Moneybags was a decent person, and I really don’t have any meaningful complaints about him. He’s great on paper. He was just a bit one note and forgettable, and their subplot did have an instalove vibe that didn’t really interest me. I was surprised by how much I came around on the ex. I thought he was the scum of the earth in the first episode. Yet at this point I somehow believe he genuinely loves the MC.

I agree. The story was alerting and then to find out his “friends” sent girls home with as a prank should have been another red flag. MC should have stopped freaking out for a second and listened to him. But, of course, episode doesn’t have this logic and they don’t see anything wrong with this storyline.

Same here. I think if the second love interest wasn’t so full on then maybe I would have constantly dismissed the ex, but I quite liked him. It might also have something to do with how I CC’d him  I believed he genuinely loved her too. It didn’t excuse what he did, but he was very persistent with showing her he actually does regret it and love her.

I seriously didn’t expect one certain scene change to completely change the course of the story. I really believe making the LI not have responsibility in cheating was supposed to make the story get resolved quicker.

That being said, I’m stuck liking the two LIs for once, but I hate Gonzalez being ignored like that even though he got a bit desperate contacting MC while she was in Costa Rica

100% same lol. She did a really good job with character development on the ex IMO. I loved their flashbacks. I’m guessing those won’t be included in this version…

I read the first episode from Pippi’s profile. I haven’t gotten this officially. I didn’t actually think it was bad, but the original is definitely (IMO) much better. There were a few directing glitches in this version, although the directing as a whole wasn’t bad or overly basic (like in Unexpectedly Expecting). However, I’m disappointed that they’ve changed so much of the original which I feel would have done just fine the way it was?
The way they twisted the ex’s cheating is concerning as mentioned above. They could have kept it as done in the original- providing, of course, that they left in the character development. I get it- if they made him a cheater but then hacked out all the flashbacks and the scenes which show him hurting, then no one would ever pick him.

One of the reasons why I liked and recommended this story was because while the premise might seem “cliche” in theory, I felt like it was done well. The character development, especially with the ex, was really good. The directing is very polished and clearly had a lot of time and effort put into it. Choices matter and there was quite a bit of branching I believe.

I read the original, it was amazing!!!

The original managed to do quite a bit of character development in under 10 episodes. Given that a few stories have been trending longer recently (HtBaP, The Acting Game), they could have easily kept the character development. I wonder what determines whether they leave a story as is or turn it into a total hack job for no reason.

Have you noticed how these are actually both extremely hard to find on the home page? I have a suspicion that if Not Your Ex makes it through testing then it’ll be on the What’s Hot section.

I love Pipi, but the Original is way better. They always change things in the Featured Stories.

Excuuuse me. Episode, what is this? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Yep, this plot change … changed a lot of things in context

Well, it looks like this has been officially featured. It’s just popped up on my “What’s Hot” section.

I was right. So it looks like stories that Episode rewrites get priority when being featured?

Anyway, congrats to Pippi. Definitely well deserved although the original will be the one I stick with.
