Haha right! Couldn’t even buy them if you wanted to the way they do gem choices these days. It would literally be like 3000 gems per story lol. I’ve done it… but it was a rare treat after I reached 5000 gems lol.
I give some gems to my fave community authors and I’ve randomly bought profile outfits from stories and pop up shops when that was a thing (I have not, and will NOT buy any from the avatar menu tho )… and the rest I hoard like a dragon with its treasure lol or Gollum with his precious lolol
You know if they made a profile background pop-up shop I would probably buy some lol just bring back the option to buy stuff for 19 gems man lol
I would pay max 250 gems if the outfit was really good. But a 1000? Bish, I have been trying to earn it for the last 4 years. I’m not spending it on 1 outfit

Lolol right! It’s like ummmmm you know how long it takes to get 1000 gems??!! Like that actually crazy. I feel like they’re trying to get the gem rich to purge all their gems lol. But they must not realize that a lot of people with a lot of gems have so many because they’re so damn stingy
Right pop up shops were awesome…most of the outfits were only 19 gems. There was only one pop up shop that they were 39, but that’s still doable. Haha yeah I think I have them all saved in my favorites too!
Got these two outfits and the other two things out of the six turns that I was excited for, was the 30 minute shard booster and the hour pass free timer. Since I’m on Sapphire right now, it allowed me to quickly make 495 points for my bookclub, and I got to finish The Devine so I was happy about that. The other two prizes were the super pass story and effing silver tokens lol.
So I’m really happy with my six turns today. Got four usable items out of them.
So, basically something kind of decent that’s limited time. In other words, they’re still not actually making any good useful improvements for people that don’t want to spend an arm and a leg to supposedly “choose their story”. The only free choices are the bad ones smh.
Some Episode originals are better about the gem choices than others, and you do get shards for playing Episode Originals that can gradually be used to get more gems. It takes a lot of patience, but, depending upon the reasons that you enjoy Episode, it pays off. Also, if you get “double shards” from the bubble gum machine, read an Episode Original right away- Originals are the only type of story that you can gain shards from.
I used to dislike the bubble gum machine, but, once you learn how to use it to your advantage, it can really make the game more bearable for those who don’t want to spend money so their character can wear a pretty dress. If you really are sick of gem choices, read community stories.
You actually earn gems from original stories, not shards… so the shard booster won’t do anything for that. The only thing that’ll boost the amount of gems you get from reading episode originals is being a VIP subscriber. You’ll get two gems instead of one.
You earn gems when you complete a chapter, but, every day, there are 3 quests which allow users to earn shards.
Make a non-gem choice in an Episode Original Story (10 shards up to five times per day)
Watch an ad (25 shards up to 14 times per day)
Make a gem choice in an Episode Original Story (50 shards)
I have used the “double shards” feature and done all 3 of these tasks, receiving 20 shards instead of 10 when doing the first task and 50 shards instead of 25 when doing the second.
The shards program is part of the reason I still bother with Episode originals at all- and I try and take advantage of it whenever I can.
Yes that’s just earning shards. I am aware of those ones. The ads aren’t story related. The non gem choice ones are yes, and I use the shard booster on them. I also save gem choices I want to make for shard boosters… but generally I rarely make gem choices period. Also the amount you make isn’t worth the price you pay if you’re doing it to earn more shards. If you’re non VIP you’ll only make one gem off of a gem choice which could cost 14-29 gems, and a VIP user like myself makes four gems when it’s boosted. But again unless you already wanted to buy that gem choice it’s not worth the boosted shards.
I currently have a shard count of 6500 gems (I’ve earned more since my last post with the screenie) and I’d say I earned the bulk of those through just the ads and offerwall rewards.
I don’t ever use real money on apps (although Episode has been tempting me to break this rule), which is why I like the bubblegum machine’s free shard boosters and the shard rewards. I only rarely make gem choices, and I definitely don’t make gem choices for shards- but the ability to earn back some of my gems certainly makes gem choices feel a little more worthwhile. I usually will cash out my shards if I really need some gems for a choice I want to make.
I could probably make a whole post on the way I try to manage my gems and shards, but that’s a post for another day.
I’m honestly waiting for that one that @MissHaze got from Essential (the new one) and the flower outfit; everything else I got and even twice or trice which is annoying cause whyyyyyy.
