I usually play episodes without sound… So it’s not important to me…
But since I have started making my own story, I have to add music in it as everyone prefers music in stories.
So for me its 3/10
6/10 sometimes I play without sound but when I do I don’t like it being the whole episode though.
I don’t really care, I mean it’s more entertaining for music to be added since it makes the story more interesting. But my sound is halfway down most of the time so…
I guess 3/10
10/10
8/10. It greatly enhances most scenes for me. I used to not pay attention to author playlists because having to leave the app to search up songs takes me out of the moment; but recently, I’ve started listening to music suggestions along with the story, and that’s been fun too!
Uhh for me 0/10.
I don’t use sound in my own stories, and always have episode stories muted when I read them, so really it isn’t important for me at all.
I think used properly music can enhance a scenes emotion- happy, sad, etc. and can add a little more depth with ambient sounds (ex: the outdoors, in a deli, places that would have some noise in the background irl) and it’s always a nice touch when it’s a driving scene to use a car running sound --with the volume a little low because if you can hear your car loudly from the inside of it, you need to put it in the shop.
At the same time- Volume matters! (literally and figuratively). If you’re using ambient sounds that are rather loud (int. deli, hall etc.) lower the volume with :
volume sound/music #(loudness) # (time to get to that volume)
I usually just put 0 so it starts at that volume- you can fade in music by changing that number
I aim for using music when it counts: Examples:
Sad girl writing alone in her room about how much it hurt to be betrayed by someone --adding something like sad guitar or one of the softer/sadder ballad music.
Club scenes/school dances/parties: These scenes definitely could use any range of music
Outdoor park/school or Interior shops/restaurants : Ambient sounds work better than music for most neutral scenes just to add a bit of an extra touch- but listen to the sound at full volume and you’ll see that after a few seconds, chirping birds and crickets get annoying. so a lower volume here makes it less so.
Do you have to use music? No, it’s really up to you. As far as from 1-10, I’d say a 5-- when used correctly and not overused throughout an entire episode, it can really enhance the reading experience)… but I’d rather no sound/music to overusing sounds/music.
Oh my God, I didn’t know about the volume matters!
you are so helpful, Thank you
I would say 5. I like it when a story uses sound but if it doesn’t than thats perfectly fine with me.
The music should compliment the story though. I’ve seen (and heard) so many times that the music wasn’t beneficial to the story due to wrong choices or wrong timing.

No problem and remember that the time isn’t in seconds the way walking animations are timed, it’s in miliseconds so 1 sec = 1000 (on the volume time)
so to fade in in 5 seconds it would be volume music 40 5000
Great😍
I’ll keep that in mind, thank you very much❤️
8/10!
It’s not a dealbreaker if a story doesn’t have music and sounds, but it does feel a little empty to me. I’m not the type of person who reads while listening to my own music because I want the music and sounds to match the scene and the emotions of the characters.
5, While reading stories I actually reduce the sound rather than increasing it! Totally because I don’t want to disturb my parents with the music , But in my ongoing first ever story, I’ve added sounds and music
5/10, with or without it I don’t really mind. But tbh I’ve read stories with really good sound effects that enhanced the experience a lot.
7/10 I don’t mind if you don’t have music or sounds in your story. But if you use it, it totally needs to match. For example: no happy go lucky music at a funeral scene.
May be off topic How does an author do that?
you literally told something that not many new writers know… Tbh I m totally unfamiliar with using perfect music according to scenes.
