Hello everyone! I wanted to know if anyone can give me some tips about this new art that I made. I have been trying to work on making my art look semi realism or full realism. (I’m trying to make it look like the covers you see on episode) and I know that it takes months or years to make them look like that and I know everyone has their own art style, but I was wondering if anyone could just give me tips about anything to make my art look more realistic. Like shading, hair, skin, eyes, brushes etc any videos or anything you think maybe will help please tell me. (I use procreate).
Maybe face proportions and then human anatomy and for the shading on the hair it should follow the way the hair is going such as curly , wavy , straight , etc.
Honestly I think you should get the anatomy first, then u can start with experimenting how to color
I suggest focusing on proportions. I’m going to give examples using your post and please do not take anything I say negatively - I’m pointing out areas you can improve and you can already draw better than I can SO, all that said, I will try to be constructive ![]()
1- Her body proportions (head to neck size, shoulders to bust and waist) they are very unbalanced.
Here’s an example of what I mean. Notice that her head is larger than her neck but her shoulders don’t come out so far from her body and her bust to shoulder ratio/width is more visually ‘even’ or proportionally accurate to a person.
2.Blending. You’ve done a good job outlining where contour and highlights would be but you’ve left them as thick lines – for a more natural looking skin, try softly blending out thinner lines so that the color works for you giving you depth without such harsh lining. ![]()
- Facial proportions - her face is unbalanced - the eyes are visually very different, her nose is very high up her face and her lips are very far from her nose making it appear that she has a very long upper lip area.
Here’s a chart that better explains facial proportions and where to draw certain features for a symmetric face
I think this is a great jumping off point for your creative journey. You are already miles ahead of me but I think you already know that there’s room for improvement, right? Otherwise you wouldn’t have asked for tips and opinions. So that makes it clear to me that you want an honest critique of your work and I tried to provide that and a few example resources. I think if you were to focus on proportions and blending, you would be in a great position to try more advanced drawing techniques. Get your basics down first though - too much too soon can lead to burn out.
My cousin (a lifelong painting/drawing artist) says that the best way to improve drawing is to wake up an extra 30 minutes early and draw anything that pops into your head. Also, try to focus on one feature -eyes for example- for a week or two - draw different expressions and angles and really get to know the shape of an eye, then move on.
Keep practicing and in a year there’s no telling how great you’ll be so don’t give up!
Thank youuu! this will be very useful to me! ![]()
Yeah I will start focusing on that
