For lovers of elemental powers fantasy stories… What’s your opinion on the Main Character actually being burdened with incredible power, rather than being a “human” and then revealing themselves into being the most powerful of all? Because I personally enjoy stories like these, it makes me feel powerful in a way, playing as someone who’s so strong , but of course to be able to keep it realistic, and have some flaws in the character and not make them unstoppable. I wasn’t sure if people liked this idea, or if they had maybe seen TOO much of this idea, or vice versa: they like this better than “MC is low tier but turns out to be godlike”, and want to see more of how the main character’s power is a burden?
I don’t know if I like it though, because it feels like godmodding, making your MC more powerful than any evil out there will be too easy to beat and your story won’t be and won’t keep people on the edge of their seats … But I can also see how it cpuld be really fin if done well
I think I misunderstood what ypu wrote, sorry Im tired rn, will get back to it later though
sorry i didn’t phrase myself properly! edited the topic to make it more clear what i meant
No, you phased yourself perfectly lol, I just misread it and realized it too late lol
But yes, I love the idea … I don’t know why anybody would like a story where the main character is overpowered and it’s obvious the MC will win and there won’t be any struggles or anything, but then having a MC whose regular against somebody extremely powerful is unrealistic and overdone, yes it’s done well in many iterations, but I assume mostly not
I used to have an overpowered character in a RolePlay on a different forum. The plot of the RP was based on a high school for children of fairytales and sometimes Gods. Some characters had powers, some didn’t … Usually people made characters that are half human and half fairytale, having one fairytale parent, but my guy was the son of two different Gods from Slavic mythology … He had a really awful power though, and although it was more powerful than any power in the entire RP, he was so terrified of using that power and of not being able to controll it and cause harm to his father, that he was less powerful than any student there, including ones that didn’t have powers becuase at least they were able to walk from one building to another withouth dread and imobilising fear
like One Punch Man style?
no not really cuz one punch man is way too op just an MC that is more powerful than her peers, but she hates it, or is burdened by it, and has realistic flaws and personality traits
That sounds great … She can also be over powered with no problems so long as she’s burdened by it … You know how Loki always says “I’m burdened with glorious purpose”
So like darker than blood, they have powers but each time they use them, they need to pay the price.
About hating the power, powers like reading minds, fire or electricity in hands or body or some things that u say it will become real are the most annoying ones, so maybe that can give u an idea
thank you!
