In that scenario I was talking about slavery (Black slavery) because ik there are many other races that go through racism WHICH IS WRONG!
For new authors, that’s going to be very discouraging, especially over something that can be said kindly. Some people on here (not you) are shouting and using excessive exclamation points. Polite feedback is okay, but screaming and shouting are completely unnecessary.
The person before you said:
Anyways, this thread isn’t specifically about black people, it about all POCs:
And you don’t need to shout at me. I’m politely sharing my opinion, not screaming at you.
I’m sharing my opinion. So unless I’m saying something super offensive, there’s no reason to shout at me. I’d read it perfectly fine without the exclamation point.
I’m not shouting at you to offend you I used caps because I’m saying racism is wrong often times you use caps to instate an issue! As you can see I’m using caps because racism is wrong! It’s shouldn’t offend you because it has nothing to do with you I just want people to understand that’s what I believe! It’s not shouting at anyone.
Okay I understand what you’re saying and you kinda make a point, but you’re tone policing
Every single sentence ends in an exclamation point. You can have emotion in your “voice” (it’s just in quotations because we’re online and it’s not really a voice) without using exclamations.
I’m not detracting anything from the statement, I’m just pointing a few things out. I’m not saying it makes the statement invalid, it’s just the tone in which it’s being said.
Please tell me if your definition of tone policing is different from mine, I’ve had others who’ve had different definitions.
I’m sorry, but why are you trying to sound so professional
?
Also what I said isn’t meant to be rude I’m just curious
You’re still criticizing their tone of voice to distract from their argument. They’re allowed to express emotion
I’ve been told talk like that in real life
It’s not something I try to do, I guess it’s just how I talk, in-person or online.
Why are you getting offended by explanation points? I literally stated my opinion and used the exclamation points to make sure you understand that I indeed know that information and agree with you and now your getting offended I wasn’t even yelling at you and it was in a nice tone also I don’t know if you know but exclamation points can be used as a good thing…
I’m not trying to distract from their argument, sorry if it came out that way. It’s just that I get very sensitive and defensive if I feel I’m being verbally attacked or yelled at for no reason.
That’s similar to my definition, too.
Thank you! Because I wasn’t offending anyone… In that sentence I literally said racism is wrong or that not all pocs are black which is important for people to acknowledge now what I’m saying is a problem?
Okay we’re getting off topic
This thread was meant to discuss why it may be offensive to POC whe white people write about there pain\issues…
No I used the exclamation point as it’s important that is what I’ve been saying this is exactly what we are saying your tone policing… exclamation points are used to say this is important it’s a text feature just like any other text feature the problem is the way you use them and I’m not using them as offensive I’m using them for importance why are you arguing about emotions?
Exactly and what does my tone have anything to do with this?
The people on Episode forums have a big problem with tone policing. I’m not sure why you think it’s funny.
Reread the convo or something cause you clearly didn’t read it if you think that person was being disrespectful for using exclamation marks in their posts. 🤦
If your empath as well, you take on the emotions of others too.
Man that last sentence about debating speaks absolute facts and volume.
Yeah and people generalize Latino or Hispanic as a race.
