I’ve been thinking about making a thread over this, so today, I’ve decided to make it.
Imagine you wake up one day, and you’re asked to be the director of a TV adaptation of your favorite Episode story. Alternatively, if you feel like it, someone asks for your permission to make your own episode story a new show, and you could be involved in adapting it into the screen.
Now, you have the choice of either accepting the deal or declining. If you feel like accepting it, answer the questions in the first arrow. If you don’t think it should be adapted or accepted, why do you think so?
Accepting
Would you have it be live action or animated? Why?
Would you make some changes to the episode to make it easier to adapt? If yes, what would you do?
How would you mash the episodes up in order to make it each episode an average length? Essentially, how would you extend it to be around 25 minutes or 45 minutes?
Would you allow the author (if not you’re not the author) to be involved in the project?
If the show was successful, would you do another season if you got requested to do so? If yes, would you make new storylines and characters to make it more fresh, or keep the core characters intact?
Who would be actors/voice actors in your show? Would they be recognizable faces, influencers, or new actors?
Declining
Why would you decline the offer? Is it because you feel that isn’t the right medium for the story or do you think the story should stay where it started?
If an Episode story was adapted, would you watch it? Why or why not?
Does it make more sense to just leave an Episode story as just a story on Episode or expose it to a whole new audience?
Would you have it be live action or animated? Why? Live action, totally!!
Would you make some changes to the episode to make it easier to adapt? If yes, what would you do? No, because I think how I’m currently writing is easy to adapt
How would you mash the episodes up in order to make it each episode an average length? Essentially, how would you extend it to be around 25 minutes or 45 minutes? About a half an hour
Would you allow the author (if not you’re not the author) to be involved in the project? DUH
If the show was successful, would you do another season if you got requested to do so? If yes, would you make new storylines and characters to make it more fresh, or keep the core characters intact? Totally! I would keep like the main characters, her friends, and the LI… but bring some new faces that would keep it fresh
Who would be actors/voice actors in your show? Would they be recognizable faces, influencers, or new actors? TOM HOLLAND, Katherine Langford, Charles Melton, Emma Watson, Noah Schnapp, Joshua Bassett, Asa Butterfield (I have a lot of good actors in mind)
So it’s about a girl who is very smart, good at deducing things. But, she is always judged for her appearance and her past. She is trying to find her missing sister and trying to solve the town mystery committed by a psychopath, while battling her own mental problems and finding herself falling in love. It’s a very complicated, intriguing story with a lot of depth and bringing awareness to mental health.
I want it to be on a platform like Netflix, where there are other TV shows that have similar themes. Netflix is a great place and a great company that would translate it well imo. Some would be hard for viewers, but that’s why it’s definitely PG-13
Thank you! I definitely have been working on it! This thread is such a good idea btw, like I think my story would be a great thing for TVs and this thread is a cool way to think about the idea of that!
Pretending that I’m the producer, I’d pick up your show. I feel like it has that sort of great vibe and mystery because people like mysteries. It also would probably have a lot of attention on it with its depth and its focus on mental health.
Honestly, thank you! I didn’t think anybody would like this thread, and I kind of considered deleting it because it just felt like nobody really wanted to respond. Your response made me feel a lot better.
Live action. Because I would imagine the adaption to be a sitcom.
Yeah, I’d take away all the choices Have it play out how I envision it
This would be quite easy for me. There’s so many lines of narration on my story that could be full on scenes if I was bothered. Plus I could show more scenes with the side characters. Or the choices that I eliminated? I could find a way to make both branches happen in one episode.
I absolutely would. But I’d keep the core characters and just think of more storylines to keep them going. I might introduce an occasional new character, but I don’t think they’d be able to work their way beyond season regular
I’ve been asked this before by readers and I really don’t know. I think I’d be more inclined to go with someone up and coming because I wouldn’t want a big name to take away from the story itself
The story Complicated by Sai Keyhart would make an amazing series :))
Or the The Shaw Brothers,
They are both really funny, dramatic, and romantic too. haha
It’s about a male living with three females. I sort of styled it to be a TV show when I wrote it for episode so each Episode is like a new arc with the same characters. Like Friends or Seinfeld
As a pretend producer, I’d pick up the show because from what I can tell, producers really like when things are the next “Friends” or “The Office” and live up to the hype.
