Placing & Animating Overlays

I am making a rain gif intro, but it doesn’t go smoothly. I have tried many different things now, and nothing seems to work. Before it was only the smoothness, but now one of the overlays also goes over the other and glitches.

Here is my first script:

1)

My overlay’s not showing up. Can anyone help?

Script

@pause for a beat
@transition fade out 2
INT. WARNING SCREEN - DAY
@transition fade in black 4
@overlay THIS STORY USES SOUND shifts to -140 -8 in zone 1
@overlay THIS STORY USES SOUND scales to 0.640 0.640
@pause for a beat

write in script

INT. WARNING SCREEN - DAY with THIS STORY USES SOUND
or
INT. WARNING SCREEN - DAY
@overlay THIS STORY USES SOUND create
@overlay THIS STORY USES SOUND shifts to -140 -8 in zone 1
@overlay THIS STORY USES SOUND scales to 0.640 0.640

then it should show, hopefully

Can someone help me with the looping overlay. What am I doing wrong?
it keeps on saying “wrong syntax coordinates for new positions”

INT. DANCE NIGHTCLUB - EVENING with PINK YELLOW LIGHTS to 1.810 170 -146 in zone 2 at layer 2 with PURPLE GREEN LIGHTS to 1.792 -628 -138 in zone 3 at layer 2

&overlay PURPLE GREEN LIGHTS shifts to spot 1.792 -786 -137 in zone 3 in 2 THEN overlay PURPLE GREEN LIGHTS shifts to 1.792 -628 -138 in zone 3 in 2 loop INFINITE times
&overlay PINK YELLOW LIGHTS shifts to 1.810 -78 -132 in zone 1 in 2 THEN overlay PINK YELLOW LIGHTS shifts to 1.810 170 -146 in zone 2 in 2 loop INFINITE times

Remove spot :blush:

Thanks!

Hello,
I want to make my overlays invisible/visible or active. How do I accomplish that? I’ve looked at dara’s website over and over. But I guess my mind isn’t quite grasping how to accomplish animating my overlays. Here’s an example of my script: INT. BLANK - DAY

@overlay INT. BLACKSILHOUETTE - DAY create
&overlay OVERLAY opacity 0 in 0
&overlay OVERLAY opacity 0 in 1
@overlay INT. BLACKSILHOUETTE - DAY shifts to -2 0
@overlay INT. BLACKSILHOUETTE - DAY scales to 0.656 0.656

First of all, the overlay name appears to be incorrect:
@overlay INT. BLACKSILHOUETTE - DAY create
&overlay OVERLAY opacity 0 in 0
OVERLAY should be INT. BLACKSILHOUETTE
At the moment the opacity is 0 on both commands which is invisible. And you have also used & one after the other for the same thing so even if it was correct it wouldn’t work. You want to make the overlay fade in then out?
&overlay INT. BLACKSILHOUETTE opacity 1 in 1 THEN overlay INT. BLACKSILHOUETTE opacity 0 in 1
Hope that helps, just check the overlay name is correct and remember the & allows simultaneous commands, using two together for the same thing won’t work :blush:

Hi I tried duplicating the same overlay but it didn’t work

error

You misspelled MAGIC on line 292

well… :sweat_smile::joy::joy:

Hey so I’ve tried moving my overlay to zone 2 but it keeps going to zone 1
I wrote the overlay zone into the background

INT. BACKGROUND NAME with OVERLAY to 1.0 0 0 in zone 2
Then whilst you’re in zone 2, move and scale the overlay to your preference and replace 1.0 0 0 with the relevant numbers :slight_smile:

What does the numbers 1.0 0 0 mean? Is It the shifts or scales ?

“1.0” is the scale. Anytime you see a number with a decimal, it’s the scale number.
“0 0” are the shift coordinates.

Okay thanks.

Hi dara,
I understand how to shift scale and rotate overlays but the looping is stil bit mystery for me.

is it possible use the infinite loop also on something alse than rotation?

example:
overlay aperas on spot 1 blinks there 2 times (changing opacity) than shifts to spot 2 where it blinks 2 times ad this will repeat in infinite loop.

how would such comand look like?

hey dara,

I’m just trying to figure out how to make the overlays rotate quickly. I have the opacity and scale and shift but it’s rotating very slow. Any idea how I can fix it?

How would I fade an overlay out? i.e. You can fade characters out of the frame, but can you do the same for overlays?

You can fade overlays by changing the opacity in time.
Example:
@overlay NAME opacity 0 in 5
@overlay NAME opacity 1 in 5
