PLEASE HELP! - ERROR - Expected CHARACTER or SCENE Change ERROR

#1

Hi everyone,

I am literally losing the will to live - I’ve been staring at my screen for an hour trying to figure this out. Someone please tell me what I’ve done wrong? Why is it telling me Expected Character or Scene Change Error?

The scene is basically someone buying a car + loads of zooms haahaha… I’ve had to add it as an jpeg attachment, sorry about that

Thanks,

Ellie!

I’ve also removed the brackets around the goto questions_label hoping that would solve it, but nope!

#6

You can’t have labels inside of a choice and you can’t skip a whole line between an ending bracket and the next choice option; it needs to be on the same line or on the very next line.

So this is wrong:

}

"Option Here" {

These are correct:

} "Option here" {

or

}
"Option here" {

I’m really sorry if I’m being completely stupid, I really am trying :joy:

So my brackets are the wrong way round?

#8

Your brackets are fine, you just can’t skip a whole line.

#10

Okay I’ve just removed the lines, but where do I put my goto label sentence now?

Thank you SO VERY MUCH YOU ARE MY FAVEEEEEE

#11

I’ve got another error now :joy::joy::joy::joy::joy:

ERROR There is a { on line whatever missing the } sign but it isnt!!!

#12

Can you post a screenshot of your script and the line where the error is at?

Since you cannot have labels inside of brackets (choices), you will need to put that whole questionaire part outside of the original choice, and put a goto inside the “No way…” choice that leads to the label

choice
“She’s right, that’s my final offer, Take it or leave it.” {
[your script here]
goto end_questions
}
“No way, I need to hear more about it first” {
LAURA
Dialogue.
@/OLIVIA is sigh_disappointed
STUPID WORKER
Dialogue.
goto questions_label
}

label questions_label

[questions here]

label end_questions

Honestly I am so so grateful for your help!!!

I’ve only gone and got another error!!!

#17

Also, in the questionaire choice, you put the goto’s outside of the brackets. You need to have them inside.

Right now you have:

}
goto questions_label
"Is there anything wrong with it?" {

but the goto needs to be before the end bracket like this:

goto questions_label
}
"Is there anything wrong with it?" {

Thank you!

YOU’VE FIXED IT!!!

THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH!!!

#19

You’re welcome! :wink:

Can I please borrow your head again?

For some reason when trying to edit my script, it gets to a few lines before the end and won’t go any further. It’s like it freezes but it’s not frozen if that makes any sense?

Pleaaaaase helpppppp!! Thanks in advance xxx

#21

Its defo not frozen cos the characters are still moving as if they’re still talking… but it just wont progress with the story. I have no idea what I’ve done. There are no error messages… It just wont carry on
