Please someone help me with overlays!

i’ve put on overlay in my script but when i try to get the character to go in front it still stays behind!

i don’t know what layer the overlay is on but no matter what number i pick for the character it is still always behind it!

i put the overlay in my script with the background so i’m not sure if that is what makes a difference?

any ideas why?

Can you give me a screenshot of your script?

Try putting your overlay at layer 5 and then put the character at layer 6
INT. BACKGROUND NAME - DAY with OVERLAYNAME at layer 5
&CHARACTER stands screen right AND CHARACTER faces left AND CHARACTER moves to layer 6
