It’s by Bronte. And I don’t think she is an Episode Official. Might be. Her stories are very popular but the costumization is SO lazily done. Mainly because of the parents. It’s been like that for her story Golden girl too.
Thanks for letting me know, I was too lazy to check up on the app
and oh yeah, I’ve heard of that author but the only story I’ve read from her and know very well is Dear Diary however I didn’t finish it
But now I forgot everything that happened in it
Reall wish ppl would put care into CC it disconnects me from the story when each time i see my parents they are not looking like me…we ahouldnt have to pretend we are adopted
Yes it’s Bronte and honestly I’m still reading the episode and the author is… problematic. To say the least.
How so? You mind PMing me about it?
i reap up to chapter 4 in ink so i read the 1st ep in ll and thought the same thing tbh.
I can see how trying to connect with a character might be more difficult if they’re very, very different in culture. Anyone can learn to appreciate other cultures, at least, but I strongly disagree with the idea that people can’t relate or connect to characters because they aren’t the same color or because they’re a different race.
If that was true, there’s no way people could connect to characters from stories that aren’t even human. If I can’t connect to an Asian character, it isn’t because the character is Asian. I feel like if I claimed that I couldn’t connect with someone who didn’t have similar blood to mine or anyone in my family, then I’d be the racist one. Reason being that the sole purpose I can’t connect to the character is because of an appearance, a race, a color.
I love characters of all shapes, colors, backgrounds, worlds, races, species, etc. It’s literally exactly how I see people in real life, too.
So, Episode is based in America–California (which is why there’s so much LA nonsense, right? Lol) And America is about 70% white and 14% black. So it makes sense that more writers/readers are white just by the stats. So even if someone who isn’t white creates a story with a white MC, it is probably with the fact in mind that there just are more white people here. Episode itself more often than not will represent what it is like in California with a white MC. I would get sick of the same old nonsense, but that’s why we have community stories! Even a majority of the community stories take place in California, and that might be because of Californian provided backgrounds.
That’s just kinda how that is, and it isn’t wrong for a predominately white society to portray people of the same race FOR people of the same race. I found that’s the attitude, and it makes sense, even if it does get sickening to see basically the same groups of people with different faces/names.
It takes a lot of research to try and accurately portray a culture that isn’t your own (believe me, I know) and people don’t always feel interested in researching other cultures or going out and talking to people, asking about it. I would be totally fine with a story with all white characters, all Japanese characters, all black, all one race so long as their personalities weren’t the same and the story was good. I think it is very important that instead of investing energy on something someone doesn’t find interesting to just write what they know. The best stories are written when the writer focuses on what they know instead of trying to please everyone that might come across their stories.
However, if a writer likes research and learning about some things, it’s a total bonus! It expands possibilities. Now to bring this down again, sorry, lol…one reason I know is common that people don’t always talk to other people with different cultures about their culture is because people get offended way too easily and they aren’t patient with people. Japan has this problem where about half of the people aren’t patient with ANYBODY outside of Japan. You don’t even have to be white. Anything not Japanese, they just don’t seem to like you very much, XD. The other half is quite fascinated with people who aren’t Japanese, though, they still will make fun of you if you ask an “ignorant” question about Japan, lol.
My point is that I believe there isn’t really a “problem” with Episode representing a bunch of different people. Every single character is written differently from story to story and from within one story. Well, the well-written ones, anyway. I haven’t read a lot of Episode stories because I’m extremely picky, but all the ones I like, even the ones I tried and didn’t like, whether I read it through or just a couple chapters, there’s plenty of different races and personalities present.
So, that being said, someone message me a story or a few where you guys have problems with how black people or any race of people are portrayed badly or where ever there is a problem of any kind because it is very possible I’m missing something and I’d like to know if there really are problems.
I just started this story, Becoming Queen Bee, and yeah…the generic white mom doesn’t match my character, but its okay because her father isn’t around. Lol. Hopefully, if he shows up in a pic or something, he’s not generic white dad, but beautiful chocolate man. If he’s GWD, oh well. I’m adopted. XDXD
I miss Summer
When winter comes along, I get a little nostalgia for my darker skin. I always look like a pale face, but the cool thing, since my dad’s dark, I get dark in the summer easy! I’d be even darker if I’d go outside every now and then, too. XDXD
He’s always telling me to go outside during the day, and I’m like…cringe, no. The sun assaults my retinas. XD
I personally don’t support the term POC but this thread is

dude yess, I mean a simple high puff would be enough. Maybe even bantu knots and different lengths and textures of afro… am I asking for too much?
Just out of curiosity, why is that?
I wanna know to. Why don’t you like the term?
I know it’s just a term to cover all coloured minorities and honestly that’s fine. I more so have a small problem when it is used in situations where one states that they are a proud person of colour. It just feels undermining to me, a person of colour could well be a person with Black or Asian or Hispanic heritage and ethnicity. It feels like a slack attempt at representing minorities, you’re just tying them all into this little bubble. Honestly I have no problem with this thread, you’re just using a word to state all minorities but I just don’t like when a person uses the term POC to represent him/herself.
POC can mean Person of color or People of color. It goes both ways. So yeah, you can use it to represent yourself
I guess, it just doesn’t sit right with me. But then again I’m the most unnecessarily sensitive person sometimes. But I feel like it limits true representation by covering everyone. There’d only be white people and POC. I feel like each individual minority doesn’t get the chance to be truly represented. Say there was a popular story that gave an accurate and positive portrayal of Hispanic person. That is a valid example of POC representation, however other POC aren’t really being represented. Am I as a black person meant to feel represented? Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy that the Hispanic culture got the representation it deserved. But where’s my representation? I admit, my reasoning is selfish, but we all deserve and need some positive representations of ourselves in media. And POC representation just appears to be an attempt to please all minorities by making them one whole group.
There’s a Black History Month shelf. Almost all POCs get a shelf (i think)
African or African American authors shouldn’t be limited to just the black history month shelf.
I was reffering to them saying why Hispanic authors got a shelf but not Black authors
I hear you, but my statement still has meaning.
It would be nice to see some appreciation shelves actually. Maybe stories with Black non customizable MCs
That’s a really good idea. Idk if episode will ever do it. Their more pro CC.
