POC Problems in the episode community

To be blunt, I don’t trust people who try to justify the lack of diversity in their stories with excuses like “I don’t know how to write [insert ethnicity here] people without offending anyone” or “I don’t know many [insert ethnicity here] people in real life”. If you can happily write about ridiculous and far-fetched scenarios like gang leaders falling in love with the boring girl they kidnapped or a girl falling into a fantasy world and marrying a prince, it’s not going to kill you to at least make an effort to include and flesh out characters who don’t share your skin tone or features. Writing is all about imagination and inspiration from real life. Use it.

@Days @ShanniiWrites I started using this code by @Dara.Amarie right below any customization templates and it works really well, I just let (for example, if the CC is a girl) the mom or sister get the same body color, hair color, eye color, lip color etc. as her and then just change the face shape and the hair style to something more mature to not make them look like twins and it works really well to get families that actually fit the character after any possible customisation.
I think you can also use if/elif/else choices right below, saying if the reader choose a certain lipstick-, hair- or skincolor the lipstick-, hair- or skincolor should be… (insert whatever color seems fit and would look realistic in combination with the other choices and the look of the customised character) to make the characters look less like twins and more like family.

Awesome:slight_smile::slight_smile: Does this work for INK or only Limelight?

I believe it works with both INK and LL, at least I haven’t heard about any limitations yet

I know people think Asia doesn’t include India, they just assume you are Korean or something.

Ugh exactly. Not like Asia is a continent but I will be sitting here drinking my chai…

I saw this while watching an old episode of Jessie. Zuri is from the continent Africa. The kids went to Africa and kept saying the ‘country’ is beautiful. It irritated me because there are various countries in Africa.

See ? My point exactly.

Same for Mean girl.
Cady was in “Africa”.
That didn’t mention a country. Not even once.

Um, I’m a POC, and… Either Caramel or Honey?

And plus, about the Africa thing? They pretty much generalize the continent…

This annoys me too. Africa has over 50 countries with diverse cultures, yet people act like the WHOLE continent is exactly the same everywhere.

It’s offensive. And all Africans look different, too.

Even in my home country there are over 500 different tribes.

Never tell a POC to get over something that’s offensive and never accept an apology on a POC behalf PERIOD.

On a POC’s behalf?

Here’s an example. Billy said a lot of racial slurs and he get’s called out for it . Billy offers a public apology for his bad behavior. Billy friends that are non poc says “We accept your apology no hard feelings.” The non poc shouldn’t accept the apology. Billy’s racial slurs wasn’t towards them. His apology is for the group of poc that he attacked. Hopefully, this example helped you understand my original comment.

Oh. That makes a lot of sense. It does happen

Here’s my hot take on how I see POC treated in episode stories:
A lot of authors tend to give poc “white features” as a way to make up for making them black. They never look like the author is embracing what poc look like and trade it in with things they think are pretty instead of using wide noses, thick eyebrows, full round lips, and the like. It looks like they tried to put in a token black character so they don’t get hatemail for racism but try to reinforce eurocentric features as beautiful anyway.
I know that some poc really do have skinny noses and straight hair, but it crosses a line when all of the poc in a story only look the way only one quarter of the world would find pretty.

I don’t want to talk over anyone who is poc since I’m white, but these are my observations.

I have full mouth lips but a small nose.

My dad has a small nose and a small mouth.
Can you tell me since when “white featured” is a thing ?

We are all different. Even in a group of different, they are all different.
So I don’t understand what do you mean.
