Hiya! Okay, here’s my dilemna.
For years I’ve been obsessed with this old movie that turned into a play. One day, I was brainstorming ideas for a story and I thought about writing a story on Episode based on that movie. There would be a few small changes with different endings but the story would remain the same.
The more I thought about it, the more I liked the idea. But, I’m scared that the story might be taken down due to copyright issues.
Would it be taken down if I did the story? HEEELPPP!
It sounds like you won’t be making enough changes, so yeah, it would get taken down.
Yes i am sorry but it would be taken down.
Here are the rules:
- Any copyrights or works of authorship of other parties, including excerpts or passages taken from literary works or television or film.
- Any trademarks or references to corporate or business names.
- Any references to real persons or places that might violate rights of publicity or privacy.
like @/amberose & @/TheGracefulCow said, it’d more than likely be taken down. you have to read the content guidelines before publishing any story. spin - offs aren’t allowed either.
I’m actually going to cry. I imagine there’s no way around this. Anyways, thanks for the help. @lvqbrl @amberose @TheGracefulCrow
Well at least you didn’t start and publish it and then have it removed. I imagine that would make you cry more
I was already so excited for this story that I feel like I just coded all the episodes xD
What movie is it? There could be a small chance that it’s public domain.
Yeah, definitely not public domain.
Okay, back to crying.
Yeah it’s not your best bet if you wanna do a story about cliques with some sprinkles of murder, you should watch movies/TV shows similar to those to get inspired. Or look up public domain stories like pride and prejudice and see how you can modernize it.
You could base your story off that, discreetly. Twist it into your own masterpiece. For example, you could have your characters take on similar roles to those characters, but have different intentions for doing so? E.G. a murder investigation, but the character’s “twisted” intentions are for some deeper purpose, like some dark secret or something idk? Hope you find a way.
Awww no! I’m sure you can come up with something fun that’s inspired by heathers and similar films/TV shows
I’m trying to search movies/plays that I like that are in public domain, I’ll see if I can do something inspired by Heathers, but I really wanted to stay true to story and use their iconic lines. But thank you all for the help and support.
Okay, good luck!
I don’t really know if Episode will take it down. I’m sure you won’t come straight out and say what your story was inspired from. If you change the plot and the storyline a bit, I think your story should be okay.
