Review Policy:

I review the first episode of a story. If your story has less than three episodes, please wait until it’s longer.

I post the review here and on my Instagram page for published reviews only so please be ok with that when requesting a review. My Instagram page is @penspaperanddreams. If you want a shoutout, please include your Instagram.

I don’t evaluate cover art or special art as I feel that’s too subjective.

Genres Accepted: Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Mystery and Romance. I have the right to deny any story that I feel I’m unable to give a proper review.

Published: I previously accepted unpublished stories, and I’m now only accepting published stories. I accept limelight, ink, classic and spotlight styles.

Following policy: I follow all authors I review regardless of the score they’re given. My instagram is public, so if you’d like to follow me, you can.

Ratings: I only post public reviews for stories that receive a 8/16 or higher. If it’s lower, I send the review via private message.

2nd Review Request: I only accept second story review requests when posted. Otherwise, stories are only reviewed once.

Story order: I Stories in the order requests are received in the following genre orders (fantasy, action, romance and mystery) I select the oldest request first for each of those categories.

Contest Entries: I will be accepting contest entries in a separate review request category and those will receive priority reading order over non-contest entry stories after the H & V contest ends.

Hi,
I’d really appreciate if I could get some feedback on my unpublished story, “Switched Royalty.” I’ve been working on it for well over a year (I write a lot more than I transfer to episode), and I just want to make sure that I’m heading in the right direction. I’ll include the “basic” summary just to give you a better idea of it. There should be some rough edges (such as small grammatical errors and extras not named) as I still haven’t completely finished editing, but I want to know your general ideas on it.

Hi! I’m Soe Jaded, just published my first story this… morning I guess. It’s 12am where I am right now. It’s the first three episodes but I really hope they are interesting enough for anyone to want to continue reading. It’s called Not SO Beneficial, about the struggles of avoiding a Friends With Benefits relationship when you have standards.

Here is the review for your unpublished story. Since it’s not published yet, this review won’t go on instagram nor will I use the full story rubic points for every section but instead give a total score, since it’s not published.

Story:
You have a common trope but you’ve added enough twists to make it interesting. I’m interested in both the main characters and Keith and seeing how that continues to develop. I would say that you would need to really work on pacing. The first episode felt like 5 episodes and although I was enjoying the story, I kept double checking to make sure I wasn’t reading more than 3 episodes. So I would recommend cutting some of the episodes into multiple ones because they’re really long.

Choices: I didn’t really feel that they were super significant but still fun to be included. So I think you’re ok there.

Visuals: Great job here! Directing, backgrounds and characters are all well done. I would say that try to make Skye’s parent’s complexion match what the character chooses unless you wanted biracial options.

Language: Mostly good, although you had a few spelling mistakes. I think the dialogue is realistic and fresh. Great job here.

Overall, I recommend it and give it a total of 14/16. Thanks for letting me review your story!

Thank you so much for the review it really means a lot to me! I’ve been contemplating splitting my first episode into 2 and your review has given me more motivation to do that. As for the choices–some of them are actually super significant, especially the ones with Keith! Depending on your choices with him, you’re thrust into completely different scenes and scenarios.

I’m not able to read past episode 3, regardless of the content being bonus content or an alternative ending. As you mentioned previously, I don’t want to mess up your user engagement so I’m not sure I’d be the right person to review your story. Thanks a lot for your reply. Of course, I completely understand. Actually, my score already isn’t the highest in the contest and I will hardly rank somewhere at the top, so now I am more after the number of reads to get exposure.

Therefore, if you would still be happy to review my first 3 episodes then, please, do. Who knows, maybe you would eventually want to read chapter 4 just for yourself. But no pressure though!
