Scene Looks Choppy! :(

Basically, I’ve coded this scene and it looks super choppy. In the scene 2 characters are talking to each other through the prison phone. And I use overlays and change the scene after the characters dialogue, and it looks super choppy! Is this an issue that can be solved or is it gonna be like that forever! :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

It is really hard to guess what you mean with choppy in this case… can you copy here the script or the preview so we can get better understanding of the problem?

Maybe you are not placing the overlays correctly. To have overlays already in the scene:
INT. BACKGROUND-DAY with OVERLAY to 1000% 123 45
OR
INT. BACKGROUND-DAY with OVERLAY in zone 1 to 1000% 123 45
OR
INT. BACKGROUND-DAY with OVERLAY in zone 1 to 1000% 123 45 at layer 0
And if you just need to place the layer and not the zone you can do that as well.

Like in the portal it looks fine, but then when you try into on the app instead of a smooth transition, it shows the overlays moving and stuff its wierd. Here’s my script anyway -

INT. RIGHT AMEPISODE - DAY with LEFT CUBICLE with RIGHT CHAIR AMEPISODE
sound door_shut_metal
@overlay LEFT CUBICLE shifts to -7 -71 AND overlay LEFT CUBICLE scales to 0.676 0.676 AND overlay LEFT CUBICLE opacity 1 in 0 AND overlay RIGHT CHAIR AMEPISODE shifts to -3 -1 AND overlay RIGHT CHAIR AMEPISODE scales to 0.676 0.676 AND overlay RIGHT CHAIR AMEPISODE opacity 1 in 0 AND overlay RIGHT CHAIR AMEPISODE moves to layer 5 AND overlay LEFT CUBICLE moves to layer -5 AND CALEB spot 1.325 233 -56 AND CALEB is idle_armscrossed_neutral_loop AND CALEB faces left AND CALEB moves to layer -6 AND zoom reset
sound wrong_buzz
@BEVERLY enters from right to spot 1.766 49 -294 AND BEVERLY is walk_neutral_rear AND BEVERLY moves to layer 4 AND overlay RIGHT CHAIR AMEPISODE moves to layer 5
@BEVERLY is rear
@CALEB is react_startled_subtle

Beverly, I'm so happy to see you!

INT. LEFT AMEPISODE - DAY with RIGHT CUBICLE with LEFT CHAIR AMEPISODE
@overlay RIGHT CUBICLE shifts to -7 -71 AND overlay RIGHT CUBICLE scales to 0.676 0.676 AND overlay RIGHT CUBICLE opacity 1 in 0 AND overlay LEFT CHAIR AMEPISODE shifts to -3 -1 AND overlay LEFT CHAIR AMEPISODE scales to 0.676 0.676 AND overlay LEFT CHAIR AMEPISODE opacity 1 in 0 AND BEVERLY spot 1.325 105 -59 AND BEVERLY is idle_armscrossed_neutral_loop AND CALEB spot 1.766 280 -307 AND CALEB is rear AND overlay RIGHT CUBICLE moves to layer -6 AND overlay LEFT CHAIR AMEPISODE moves to layer 6 AND CALEB moves to layer 5 AND BEVERLY moves to layer -1000 AND CALEB faces right
BEVERLY (talk_armscrossed_neutral_loop)
How are you holding up then, Dad?
INT. RIGHT AMEPISODE - DAY with LEFT CUBICLE with RIGHT CHAIR AMEPISODE
@overlay LEFT CUBICLE shifts to -7 -71 AND overlay LEFT CUBICLE scales to 0.676 0.676 AND overlay LEFT CUBICLE opacity 1 in 0 AND overlay RIGHT CHAIR AMEPISODE shifts to -3 -1 AND overlay RIGHT CHAIR AMEPISODE scales to 0.676 0.676 AND overlay RIGHT CHAIR AMEPISODE opacity 1 in 0 AND overlay RIGHT CHAIR AMEPISODE moves to layer 5 AND overlay LEFT CUBICLE moves to layer -5 AND CALEB spot 1.325 233 -56 AND CALEB is idle_armscrossed_awkward_loop AND CALEB faces left AND CALEB moves to layer -6 AND zoom reset AND BEVERLY spot 1.766 49 -294 AND BEVERLY is rear AND BEVERLY moves to layer 4 AND overlay RIGHT CHAIR AMEPISODE moves to layer 5
CALEB (talk_apathetic)
Well as can be expected.

They’re placed right it’s just like choppy idk? :joy:

I see the problem - its because of using @ and not putting the overlay shift and scale next to the background

If you want overlay to be on scene in the right scale and on the right spot on the begining

you cant write it like this

INT. RIGHT AMEPISODE - DAY with LEFT CUBICLE with RIGHT CHAIR AMEPISODE
sound door_shut_metal

BUT:

INT. RIGHT AMEPISODE - DAY with LEFT CUBICLE to 0.676 -7 -71 at layer -5 with RIGHT CHAIR AMEPISODE to 0.676 -3 -1 at layer 5
&CALEB spot 1.325 233 -56 AND CALEB is idle_armscrossed_neutral_loop AND CALEB faces left AND CALEB moves to layer -6
&zoom reset

then will everithing be on place in the instant moment
