If you get nervous, pretend you know what you’re talking about, or apologize if a kid calls you out on a mistake and try to correct yourself. But BE YOURSELF. Some first year teachers try too hard to be mean when it’s not their personality, just to get kids to respect them. I made a lot of mistakes during my first years of teaching, and kids didn’t respect my authority at first. But if you’re nice, be nice but set rules and stick to them.

I hate it when no one laughs at my jokes… it’s kind of a self-esteem crusher for me. But I usually just change the subject quickly
