When everyone is talking and you can’t concentrate.
I hate that!
The btches in my school. Honestly, they are so annoying. They like to be a btch for no reason.
- They call me Beth when my name is clearly Bethany (I don’t think anyone like when people they barely know use an irritating shortened version of your name.)
- They used to say “Hi” to me and when I said it back but because they might as well be deaf they didn’t hear me and put on a melodramatic performance “Beth, doesn’t like me
”, “She doesn’t like anyone, she is just a b*tch” . Like that is an obvious.
- In addition to the second one, they asked me what should they call me? And I said I would rather you not talk to me at all. Of course they tell on me for it but since the teacher had known me for 3 years she told them off.
- Also I was asked for a pencil in a pandemic and said no. They then began gossiping about me.
That is rude af.
The ppl in your school suck
Agreed.
ugh don’t even get me started
(btw i’m talking about zoom and virtual pet peeves)
i hate when the teachers don’t dismiss you even when you finished the assignment. like bish i finished i wanna go
also since it’s virtual i feel they teach worse? for example they actually teach irl, but virtually you kinda have to just learn to do it yourself
i can’t wait until this school year is over and when i can throw my laptop from my window lmao
Seriously!? They should know that your name is Bethany, not Beth and the people in your school suck and there b*tches. And as well as, the teacher next door from my class came in to write something down on the whiteboard with a marker and she spelled my name wrong! Like, I’ve known her for 2 years and I think by now, she should know how to spell my name.
That’s reminds me of the classroom next door, they so loud especially when my classroom’s door is closed! You can still hear them
I hate it when I really know they answer and I’m the only one raising my hand (virtually) and the teacher calls on a random person bc “no one was raising their hand”
ALSO when she keeps calling on the same ppl bc they’re her favorites.
also for some reason i just hate it when the teacher doesn’t completely erase all the ink from the whiteboard, whether it’s a physical whiteboard or online whiteboard. it just gets on my nerves sm i can’t—
this isn’t a pet peeve but i had one teacher that was bad mouthing me on a zoom call i wasn’t on (i know this because my friend was there) and she was bad mouthing me because my zoom was having issues and i couldn’t join the call at the eXaCT time
i eventually joined and AFTER the call i apologised as i genuinely felt bad (this was before i found out they were bad mouthing me) AND THEY RESPOND ALL NICE LIKE “don’t worry your friend told me why you couldn’t join!”
like HUH
UM WTF??? Now that is what i call a
f a c a d e:sparkles:
I KNOWWW
i was like “whatever i give up”
About the camera thing: Often, it’s a school policy, not something that teachers come up with. I work in a private school, and the principal decided that a general rule for every class is that students must have their cameras turned on. Not everyone does it, of course, but I totally get the privacy issue. Therefore, I have no problem with them using a virtual background or the blur background feature. Schools that don’t allow that seriously suck.
Here are some school pet peeves I have, as a teacher:
-
Online staff courses or meetings at 2pm. This doesn’t happen often, but 2pm is THE ABSOLUTE WORST TIME to have a stupid two hour course about something that has nothing to do with my subject. I’d rather have the meeting on a Saturday than at 2pm, because that’s the time I’m finally done giving classes and am hungry to the max! I even got sick with an intestinal infection back in February because of one of these two hour courses and having to eat something that wasn’t fresh.
-
Staff meetings that won’t end because someone asks a question that only applies to them AT THE LAST MINUTE. This drives me insane! Or when people keep discussing their POV on some topic that could have been easily resolved. Once, a professional development course ended an hour later than it should have because some teachers couldn’t come to an agreement about how to grade late work.
-
Turning in empty assignments on Classroom. Seriously, you think I’m going to grade an invisible assignment just because you pressed send? No… just, no. That does not count.
-
When nobody participates. This has been happening since January in one of my groups. They’re like zombies. I say ‘hi, how are you?’ and no one answers. I try to get people to share their viewpoint on something, and … dead silence. It’s getting boring.
Ooofff I feel bad for you. Being a teacher is rough in the pandemic. And now, since I want to be a teacher when i grow up, what’s it like being a teacher? What do you like and not like abt it? Outside of the pandemic that is. Do lesson plans take like 27719304929 hours to make???
Sorry i’m blasting u with questions

No problem!
It depends on the school where you work… some schools require extremely detailed and specific lesson plans. The school where I work prefers that we keep them basic. Most teachers have a separate notebook for the actual details of what we’re going to do in class. So it doesn’t take me that long to do lesson plans anymore.
I love working with kids and teens. My favorite part about teaching is bonding with my students. We can be talking about reported speech one moment and discussing music next.
My favorite grades to teach are middle schoolers (here it’s 7th, 8th, and 9th). I don’t like elementary because of the toxic work environment, parents blaming every discipline problem on teachers, and the fact that schools want elementary kids to sit down in a desk all day and work, when they need to be active.
The things I don’t like about my job are long meetings, paperwork, and grading. Both physical and online school have advantages and disadvantages, but I prefer physical school. I hope we get to go back in August, but of course there are the negative naysayers that say we won’t. I hope not, because online school is so boring.
Hey, my school is 7,8,9 too! I’m in 9th grade right now.
I never thought about the discipline problems. That’s a good point.
Well I hope that the school i end up teaching at doesn’t make me make super detailed lesson plans
Yes online school is a bit boring (saying that as a virtual student) but hey, at least i get to keep my pjs on all day😄
I plan to make grading fun by giving out free stickers bc who doesn’t want stickers?
Do you get nervous? How do you hide it?
What do you do if no one laughs at your joke?
Some of my biggest fears is that I’ll get so nervous I won’t be able to teach which deters me from going on that path, and that the students won’t laugh at my jokes. My friends keep assuring me I’ll be the super cool and funny teacher that everyone just LOVES but I’m doubtful.
If you get nervous, pretend you know what you’re talking about, or apologize if a kid calls you out on a mistake and try to correct yourself. But BE YOURSELF. Some first year teachers try too hard to be mean when it’s not their personality, just to get kids to respect them. I made a lot of mistakes during my first years of teaching, and kids didn’t respect my authority at first. But if you’re nice, be nice but set rules and stick to them.

I hate it when no one laughs at my jokes… it’s kind of a self-esteem crusher for me. But I usually just change the subject quickly

Thank you so much for answering my questions! Sometimes i go back and forth between whether i want to be a teacher or not, but this helped
Something that only my teacher would do. He compares the online students with us saying, oh the wonderful quiet people at home. Well, ofc they’re quiet- they have their MICs off. Who knows what’s going on in the bg!
