I’m trying to write a scene where the character are in a jail cell, but you can’t see the cell until it fades in later. But the issue is, in the very beginning of the scene there’s this little second when you can see the jail cell and then it disappears.

I think it’s because I have this action: &overlay PRISON BARS CLOSED opacity 0% in 0 in zone 1 at layer 3

Right underneath this placement.

This action: INT. PRISON SIDE 1 - DAY with PRISON BARS CLOSED to 1.000 0 0 in zone 1 at layer 3

I’m just trying to make the cell be in that background, but not visible for readers until it fades in later. Can someone help me out? Any type of help is appreciated.

By the way, this action above works perfectly fine when have the cell bar fade in later into the scene. But the way you see the cell bars when the scene first starts bothers me. I hope I’m making sense :sweat:

What you can do is place the overlay in a different zone and after the opacity will set on 0, put it back in zone 1.

It worked for the start of the scene. But when the cell bars were suppose to fade in, it didn’t pop up.

You need to place them back in zone 1 after you set them on the opacity 0

Based on what you’ve described, you could give this a go :blush:

INT. PRISON SIDE 1 - DAY

&overlay PRISON BARS CLOSED create
&overlay PRISON BARS CLOSED shifts to 0 0
&overlay PRISON BARS CLOSED scales to 1.000 1.000
&overlay PRISON BARS CLOSED to layer 3
@overlay PRISON BARS CLOSED opacity 0

(Then, when you want the prison bars to fade in…)

@overlay PRISON BARS CLOSED opacity 1 in 2

(Assuming you want the overlay to fade in completely in 2 seconds.)

I have a problem too.
The error says I have an extra bracket.
This is what I typed in.

I’ve re-positioned the braces for the choice, because each open brace needs a corresponding close brace. I’ve also added an underscore for the name of the gain.
