These are all my custom made brushes, all at the same opacity, size, everything. Only one is with the Apple Pencil and one is not. To me, the brushes look odd without the Apple Pencil, as it adds variation in size and opacity if you press lighter or darker. Without it, it just looks blocky which is something I hate in art because it has no force fade like ibis, so the line don’t fade out at the end.
I feel like Proceate was made for the IPad Pro and Apple Pencil and that’s why it works better with that combo.
However, you look perfectly amazing at art without the Apple Pencil so if you feel like you want it, go for it!
Maybe try Procreate Pocket? Though I don’t know what it’s like
I think I’ll stick to ibispaint for now, I have a stylus but not the original apple one, I try doing art with it and see if it’s any better
Thanks again
Here is an example of a few colors with shading. I have included shading that comes from staying on the same hue, and shading that comes from adjusting the hue a bit. Take a look & see what you notice.
Here is my base color, a basic color of blue. Instead of moving my color picker directly down, I will not only move it down, but I’ll adjust the hue of it, like this:
Instead you can paint different hues on a different layer, clip it to the skin / whatever and set the blend mode to multiple / overlay or something similar.
I think spending time on your art is important. So I don’t mind that it may take a lil more time to choose the shades for my base colors. Just means (hopefully) it’ll turn out better.
Do you have examples of changing hue and not changing hue if not, could you maybe just draw like, a sphere and shade it with and without changing hue? Can’t access my app rn, so interested to see what the difference is.
