If the story no longer resonates with you, inspires you or makes you happy. I think it’s best to discontinue. 
But if there’s apart of you that still loves it and thinks there’s a possibility of wanting to continue where you left off, putting it on hold is better. 
I’m not exactly sure how you feel about the story, but that’s my take.
