Spot directing: entering and exiting to a spot

hey,

i am rewriting & getting back into writing a story that I started beginning of last year, and I keep stumbling across scenes where I need this but somehow have to work my way around it because what I am trying is not working.

how do I make it so that my character walks into the scene, but far in the background and downscaled, and in a way where the character does not enter from the bottom left of the screen scaled to 100% and then scale down and basically walk in a triangle when entering, walking to the designated spot and then exiting?

I’ve tried the command @NELIA enters from screen left to spot 0.336 247 333 in zone 2, but the system just ignores whenever I preview.
then I tried to put the character in a spot in zone 1 and make her walk to the spot in zone 2:

@NELIA starts spot 0.336 254 333 in zone 1 AND NELIA faces right

@NELIA walks to spot 0.336 247 333 in zone 2 AND NELIA is walk_neutral

but the same problem occurs, it just ignores it and instead makes the character walk in from the bottom left of the screen on a 100% scale and then downscale in a very weird way.

thanks so much for the help in advance!

First of all when using this command:

When using this, you can only let them walk to “screen left”, “screen right”, “screen center”, “back left”, “back right”, “back far left” and “back far right”.

When using this command:

You can’t use the word “starts”, just leave that out and it will work.

Try this:

@NELIA enters from screen left to spot 0.336 247 333
.
.
@NELIA spot 0.336 254 333 in zone 1 AND NELIA faces right

@NELIA walks to spot 0.336 247 333 in zone 2 AND NELIA is walk_neutral

If the last one doesn’t work just delete the ‘in zone 2’, I guess it’s already cut to zone 2 so it’s redundant :blush:

The first one is not really true
you can use spot directing while entering the scene

Here is an example from my script, maybe try this :smile:
It sometimes doesn’t work with zones so in would recommend just deleting the part with the zone

Oh! This is what I usually write on my script in this case:

&NELIA spot 0.336 254 333 in zone 1 AND NELIA faces right
@NELIA walks to spot 0.336 247 333 in zone 2 in 2 AND NELIA does it while walk_neutral AND NELIA faces right

Is this what you meant?

You can use entering from a position like screen left to spot 1.280 270 0. The reason why what they wrote didn’t work is because of “in zone 2” you can’t use “in zone #” where # is a number with the enters command.

Yep, so true, you can :fist_bump: :100:

Ok thanks! Yea I figured out I could just drag the character out of the screen to the left side and then have them “enter” by letting them walk from the spot outside of the camera focus and into the screen if that makes sense? And same for letting a character exit

Hello, I am new to writing episode stories and have a quick question i’m trying to make my character enter the screen but it’s not working. I @Mycharacter enter screen from left position and it’s not working. My character will not enter the screen at all. Could you please help me with this issue?

Is it in the right zone?
