Spot Walking Help

My characters aren’t default size so I have to use a different command with them but it doesn’t seem to work. I used another persons method, but I don’t think my coordinates are correct? Please help!

I used this method;
@NIA spot 0.677 224 240 in zone 2
@NIA spot 0.677 -100 in zone 2

@NIA walks to spot 0.677 224 240 in zone 2

spot 0.677 -100 in zone 2 isn’t an actual spot cause it’s in negatives. -100 would only be acceptable if it was in zone 1 as its not on the set. It should have corrected to zone 1

I think you need to understand spot directing first before working with it :sweat_smile:
Here are some tutorials:

Also if you used @cut to zone 2once, you don’t need to repeat it after that, unless you move to a different zone.

Hope this helps :slight_smile:

If you need your character to walk from one spot to another use this;

@CHARACTER spot x y z in zone #
@CHARACTER walks to x y z in zone # in (1-5) AND CHARACTER faces (right or left)

and if you want it to have a different animation while walking use this;

@CHARACTER spot x y z in zone #
@CHARACTER walks to x y z in zone # in (1-5) AND CHARACTER faces (left or right) AND CHARACTER is (animation)

For example;
If my Character’s name is KHUSHI

@KHUSHI walks to spot 0.880 233 196 in zone 1 in 3 AND KHUSHI faces left AND KHUSHI is walk_neutral

Do Not Forget to change the Character’s name and remove Bracates.
There you go, hope it helps. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

THANK YOU!!! This helped so much!!

I believe that error on the app means there’s an error in your script in the writer’s portal. Could you screen-shot what you’ve coded so we can help you out?

first time making a story

dialogue doesnt look like that.

when youre on a line press space and eventually itll show you characters, pick one and then you do in brackets what the animation is then below the line you do the dialogue.

    MC (sleep_lay_uncomfortable_awaken)
(What time is it?)

The brackets around the text is simply because it’s speech bubbles.

Yours sould be like,

  AURORA (animation)

Come on Mia, it’s getting late.

okay thankyou for the help

so sorry but it still says error

Okay, so there is a specific format for dialogue with donacode in order for the system to read and interpret it correctly. You got the top line of it right, but I’ll give you an example to model your dialogue after.

(Press TAB twice instead of spacebar and it’ll get to the spot where the script highlights your character name blue and your animation green :smiley: just a little shortcut tip.)

TAB twice ----> NAME (talk_animation_name)
TAB once —>Come on, Mia, it’s getting late.

First line, Character name has to be all CAPS < like that. You can use any animation inside the ( ) part: sing, talk, walk_talk_neutral_loop, tinker_stand_neutral_loop_rear etc…

Second line: First letter in the sentence needs to be capitalized and you need an ending punctuation - period, exclamation (!), a – for a sudden cutoff. ( Using your own sentence: Come on, Mia, it’s getting late .

Don’t worry about that, hon. You aren’t bothering me in the slightest. We all start somewhere with coding and it takes awhile to get all the little quirks of donacode into memory but it’ll become second nature for you the more practice you have. :slight_smile: Don’t give up and keep asking for help when you need it. :slight_smile:

If you haven’t already seen them around the forums, Joseph Evans’ youtube channel has a extensive playlist of Episode Code Tutorials that offer a verbal and visible tutorial inside the portal so you can see exactly where and how to do things :slight_smile: He breaks things down pretty well and gives previews and split screens with the actual portal to keep it from getting too hard to follow. I started with his videos when I first started coding and it really helped me learn the basics.
Also, Dara’s website dara-amarie.com has a Complete list of code commands under the “Guides” tab for if you forget how to set up a specific code :slight_smile: Her written guides and tips/tricks/templates are top-notch :slight_smile: I used this after the Joseph Evans’ playlist because I’m a visual learner more than a read-and-get-it type learner.
Both are great resources to keep bookmarked for when you need them :slight_smile:

Did you try to Capitalize the first letter…!? In episode scripts, you need to capitalise the first letter of the dialogue. :eyes:

Hope this helps… :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
