hiya!! i’m writing a action/romance/fantasy-ish (i guess)/drama story- and i wanted people’s general opinion on some cliches or stereotypes that you hate!!
for example:
the LI saving the MC from something- only for the sake/purpose of them to grow closer together
OR
the MC acting helpless and like a damsel in distress and letting the LI do everything for her (then they end up getting together)
MAFIA LEADERS WHO GET CAUGHT OFF GUARD BY NEW AND UNEXPECTED INFORMATION.
For god’s sake these people live outside the law. They have to be hypervigilant. They have vast networks of information gatherers everywhere: inside prisons, governments, companies, banks, whatever. They cannot afford to have blind spots. They probably knew Halsey was pregnant before she did. Someone’s consigliere would have seen Jeffree Star leaving Kanye West’s house before Ava Lockner could say a word. You get the point.
These people don’t survive by being isolationist or hyper-competitive. When you’re shady, you watch your back or die. Your mafias better have plans inside of plans. Their plan Bs have plan Bs. Ignorance is a death sentence.
tl:dr: IT’S ORGANIZED CRIME, NOT DISORGANIZED CRIME.
-shy mc
-loud bestie
-gay sidekick
-toxic Li
-mc having previously experienced emotional trauma so gives Li a hard time. (Basically re makes of Jaded Love)
-pregnancy
-physical abuse for comedy
-illegal relationships e.g boss + employee/ student + teacher.
in my story she would have experienced some trauma- but she wouldn’t give the LI a hard time, she would just want him to be there and support her during a rough time. would you read that?
what about pregnancy at like the VERY end? then they would show ‘10 years later’ or something like that and then the MC and the LI have like a family. what about that?
Probably an unpopular opinion, but I don’t like art scenes. They’re just narration and Episode is supposed to be a show-don’t-tell medium.
Other things:
Older brother/father getting angry female MC has a boyfriend or girlfriend and/or gets stupidly overprotective
Men being called Jax, Asher, other names that have been used too many times
Description of a LI’s abs
An 18-year-old being the MC and looking like a full-grown adult as opposed to only being a senior in high school (At 18 I was not acting like I was 30 lol)
General horniness
Most queer characters acting “fabulous” and talking about clothes. It’s always especially disappointing when I can be queer in a story and then see that I have a “gay best friend” who says “yas queen” all the time.
Having the option of being queer in a story and then THE PRONOUNS FOR THE LI ARE INCORRECT. Love reading about my female LI who is referred to as “him” half the time. I always feel like an afterthought or a copy-paste.
