With Demi Lovato and Mean Girls, when you buy an outfit or a specific choice,it benefits you highly and you an wear the outfit again instead of in one episode.
No I think I meant what I said. There was more about her way of speaking, than acting.
Itâs a weak attempt to generate profit and for quite a few readers, it seems to work.
Like, I act like a British person, not like a brown person because I grew up in Britain, went to a British school and was raised with British values. If you think that people âspeakâ or âactâ in a certain way because of their race, youâre more likely to fall into the trap of stereotyping people.
And stereotypes in stories are definitely overrated
good point.
For every one person you see who âactsâ like the stereotype of their race, I guarantee you there are 5 others who donât. The problem is the ones who do are easier to spot.
Definitely - the places where we grow up have a massive impact on the way we behave and talk. Like for me, having grown up in Hertfordshire, the way I talk and act can massively vary from another Bangladeshi from Birmingham. It can be as deep as behaviour and speech patterns varying from place to place in one country.
That being said, there are still general customs shared amongst a culture but it does not guarantee all people adhere to said customs.
I just hate it when some people think when they have black friends or in a area where we are, they can say n*gga or use our slang.
True!
Exactly! The need to stereotype people in stories is probably the most overrated part of stories on Episode. The team forces diversity standards on us without any sort of education about it, so people think researching âmannerismsâ helps to not be offensive. Episode has GENERATED cliche stories THEMSELVES. And thereâs nothing more overrated than a girl MC with a gay best friend.
Bottom line: research customs, celebrations, religious values, etc. Not the way people act.
I would prefer if they made contests, shelfs, props, and clothing based on other celebrations and cultures.
Like, when have they even made a story or shelf based on Hanukkah? Kwanzaa?
Exactly, and I am going to be honest - seeing forced diversity is far more insulting than no diversity whatsoever. Research is an essential aspect of ensuring the way a character is written in a proper way, especially with having younger readers who may not feel a necessity to research or understand other cultures they may treat what is written on stories as gospel so I believe it is the authorâs job to research and truly understand what is being written.
Now that would be great - religious inclusion is important too!
Research is definitely crucial! But I feel like people forget the most important part: treat them like people!
I see people who do SO MUCH RESEARCH but forget to treat them as you would other human beings. They end up looking like culturally accurate robots with no feelings
Yes haha, they spew out all this lovely knowledge but the characters are human at the end of the day! They have personalities, dreams and fears too!
Iâm gonna express an unpopular opinion: traditional love triangles are overrated. I like the ones that are like âthey both like me but I havenât even thought about datingâ, but actually not being able to choose between two partners? They must have NO self esteem if they let you do that to them.
Throwing shade at a featured story which is no longer âfeaturedâ, if you know what I mean.
Especially because so many stories just DRAG OUT the love triangle. Itâs okay to be confused for a day or two. Not or 50 chapters like this story⊠and halfway through the MCâs confusion, they add in a third guy
I like the stories where she has moments with both characters, but is too busy saving the world or trying to do something heroic to actually be romantically involved. The ones where shes caught between a set of twins or three rich guys who all love her or the bad boy and the good guy for no reason? OVERRATED
