Episode has official contracts with the celebs in their stories (same goes for Pretty Little Liars and Pitch Perfect).
Users don’t have contracts with these celebrities, which could cause legal issues for Episode, which is why it’s against the rules for users.
While reading some posts on this thread, I noticed a lot of people were confused as to what a cliché actually meant. There is a big difference between a cliché and a trope and this is what I’ve gathered:
A cliché is, by definition, an overused expression or idea to the point that it’s become predictable and/or superficial and has lost its originality and impact. The word “cliché” is meant to be used pejoratively.
Tropes have different definitions, but one of them is: an idea, similar to an archetype but not limited to characters, that is recurring and/or expected. They are familiar but not overdone and predictable to the point of becoming a cliché. All stories have tropes and a story can be considered great or terrible based on how those tropes are used.
Tropes are familiar to us and sometimes expected from a certain literature genre (in dystopian fiction, for example: the rebellion against an oppressive government or the near entirety of humanity being wiped out) Sure, what makes a trope become a cliché is sometimes subjective and what might be an overdone idea to me might be a brand new one to you. But to say that a cliché is merely something that has already been done before and is therefore impossible to avoid because technically everything has been done before at least once is incorrect. Clichés can’t be done right, because they’re already “tropes gone wrong”.
One example of a trope that remains in this grey area is “The Chosen One”. There are some amazing stories featuring this idea/character as a trope/archetype, but there are also a lot of terrible ones which turn this trope into a cliché within their story. This is why a lot of people have a hard time deciding whether “The Chosen One” is just a trope/archetype or a straight up cliché. And there’s really no real answer to this, it just depends on how this trope is used.
I hope I’ve helped someone out there understand these two words better as, I admit, I was confused about them myself. And there’s probably a lot about the understanding of tropes and archetypes that I’m still missing.
Real Hollywood is what got me obsessed with Episode.
It’s a CLASSIC (literally and figuratively)
I will always love it.
Same. I think Real Hollywood was probably the first story I read on Episode! It had **So. Much. Drama. ** though
There was Campus Crush too but I remember finding it pretty boring at the time and never finished it since.
I like how the Classic style now carries a feeling of nostalgia, it’s too bad that not too many users got to see what the app was like back then.
Same thin with me for Campus Crush. Those two were the first stories I ever read I think, but I still haven’t finished Campus Crush to this day because it was too boring for me.
I just really really REALLY tired of bad boys/girls cliche. Like f*ck off already! I don’t know how kids keep getting interested in them, when virtually the plot for all the stories is the same. Ughhhh
And the sad thing is the most best stories are always unpopular or underrated and it’s always the cliche - predictable stories with poor directing that get’s the most reads like gang stories, bad boy stories etc. This is why they should have a ‘recently published’ section instead of scrolling all the way down to find a new decent story!
this is the reason why i started writing stories. i couldn´t find any good ones so i started creating my own
The bad boy that tries to sleep with me in the store room or then puts my bra on the school’s flag.

More like 17+ since a lot of these stories featured are more for 17 and up.
Like everyone I get tired of the bad boy ones or the “Pregnant by a Serial Killer” kind of stories, lol. One kind of story, I wish we could see more of are ones with a historical setting. Mostly for the aesthetic, plus the Victorian dresses and stuff seem very underused.
So true >.< the victorian clothes are never used much anuthing thts not short dress or crop top doesnt get used
hahaha true
G, this is so true
THIS WAS SO SHADY HAHA. if any of that happened in real life, there would be some hands thrown and some fists caught.
mental illness stories: stories that glorify/romanticize mental illnesses and bullying and depression. it’s not cute nor trendy
I’m sorry but why are the mean girls always blond with blue eyes? It’s honestly an offence towards everyone out there who’s blond.
Just a classic “mean girls” trope
If Episode made a “cliche” shelf so many other stories could get noticed!
And what if their next contest was cliche themed? Lordy
No ones trashing anyone specfifc just common tropes in media(can be shown in tv shows and on other writing apps too)
