Stories we're sick and tired of seeing in the trending and featured section

Lowkey reading this for the first time, what is wrong with reality show trope?

Stories in which the boy/girl treats their love interest like shit and literally the next moment the said abused love interest is fawning all over their lover’s body or something LOL. We sure looooove toxic codependency, abuse, and humiliation. That’s totally true love, right?

Aaagghh I feel you :slightly_frowning_face: Stories like these are rarely ever inclusive. Especially Episode featured stories. I’m LGBT+ and it pains me, because whenever there are non-hetero characters, they’re usually reduced to the “Gay Best Friend” and used as a background character/accessory. Then these authors claim to be LGBT+ friendly/inclusive and that their story is “diverse” lmaooo my ass

Some people hate it, some people don’t even think about it, and other people just don’t want to write it for whatever other reason. I thought Episode would only feature LQBT stories now, I guess I was wrong. Some people say that maybe you shouldn’t be able to choose your sexuality in Episode stories, but then again it lets you create and name your character and says that it’s YOU, so we can make our characters like ourselves so if that’s their intent then we should be able to choose our sexuality.

Yeah that’s just their flimsy illusion of diversity. Apparently we’re supposed to love their story because of the so called “diversity” if the best friend is gay, even though our personalized character can’t be and the straight people are supposed to not notice and people in the LQBT+ community are supposed to be too uncommon to be able to have enough people to voice our opinion on the problem properly. At least that’s what I think might be it. I’m also LGBT+ and it sucks when these stereotypes (like the gay best friend or a trans character whose life is no more than being trans) are forced upon us. And anyone past the T in LQBTQIA+ is completely ignored, which in my opinion could be just as bad.

The authors assume that the readers are all heterosexual/heteroromantic and cisgender, and therefore make the main characters that way, and a huge population of readers are unrepresented, and if they are represented at all, it’s usually with a stereotype. The good news is that more and more LGBT stories are appearing throughout the app, and more readers are getting included (still waiting for the representation of asexual or aromantic people and non binary people, also pansexual and panromantic people.)

oof yessss that’s really annoying. they’re always reduced to stereotypes, too. you know, the ‘sassy gay dude’ and etc.
i love having options, especially if there’s a bi/pan option to be attracted to all genders or (rarely) an asexual option to avoid sex scenes. like, people accuse LGBT+ of forcing their sexualities on people but what about episode forcing all of us to be straight?

I’m currently starting my very first story, and I’m more interested in the choices that affect the story line. Nearly every choice (except for attire) affects the episode or an episode I have planned down the line. There’s no customization of color, gender, or sexual preference. Do you feel that it’s a mistake to not become the character? And instead watch them and shape them? I’m completely new here and I wanted to use this platform to tell a story in a more classic way, kind of like picking up a book and/or watching a t.v. show. Thanks for any input.

You forgot that the school is always involved in every story. (:

it dosnt matter to me i like good plot and good characters

Well, now I have a complete list.

Bad Boys, obviously. You can’t change them–it’s a personal choice they make, and if you think you can change them, they aren’t the right person for you. In addition to this, a lot of stories re-use the same stereotype of 50’s bad boys, smoking with snarkiness and motorcycles. I’ve looked through A LOT of posts on here, and I’ve seen other examples, such as back in the greek/roman days, anti-authority, rebels, 60’s things… It becomes really bad after a while, and pretty predictable. Interestingly enough, though, the Boy never seems to have an STI, and never seems to get any other girl pregnant–except for the MC.

Makeover Stories. You should change for yourself, not for someone else. If they only notice you after an appearance change, they’re too shallow and don’t deserve you.

Pregnancy Stories. They’re a bit too much now… It’s always a plot device in current stories, and the mother’s always pressured or certain she’ll keep the baby. Even in a story, no person should be forced to hold onto something she didn’t want. Abortions and miscarriages never seem to appear in these stories–in a few of them, the MC says to herself that she “can’t forgive herself” if she were to go through with it. I respect that, but then explain the MC’s saying that in 99% of the stories. More importantly, how come they never have protection, and why is vomiting the first and only symptom?

Love Triangles. The only ones I’ve seen are the ones that become Dateline episodes: the girl kills her bff because she liked the same boy. And if some do exist in real life, they never match Episode’s ridiculous standards. I think one I saw, the bffs were all at war over this one boy, only to find out he’d been dating someone for quite some time and never thought of any of the bffs as romantic interests.

Kidnapping. It’s attempting to show a real life illness, stockholm syndrome, in a positive light, and that’s not okay. Stockholm affects people in horrible ways, usually because they begin to sympathize or fall in love with their abuser/kidnapper. Cough cough, Chain Reaction

Mafia/Gangs. Enough is enough–half of these things aren’t even historically accurate! They shouldn’t be promoted, either–members of cartels and mafias are ruthless and heartless enough, they could very well kill a child who’s a witness. Their glorification needs to stop. One of my upcoming stories, Discipline, is Mafia. I admit it. But, unlike many authors with their stories, I’m actually trying to make it historically accurate for the series’ 1927 time period, and show their members as the true monsters they are/were.

Supernatural. Kinda tired of the “Werewolf to Human”, “Vampire to Werewolf”, and “Vampire to Human” kind of thing. Once again, planning a series with these exact things… But it’ll be at least 1000x better.

Grammar.
Example: Stories like Ms Mj’s using extremely robotic text. Bold is grammatically correct.
“I will call Edgar on his cellular phone and ask for the location of the meeting.”
"I’ll call Edgar. Maybe he’ll know where the meeting’s at."
Or, Like In Loving Latino, The Description Is Literally This. I’m Not Joking.

Everything else I would want to list, would ultimately keep me up past 3AM.

Good day

Everything about this sentence cracked me up, but the “cellular phone” destroyed me and I do not even know why :joy::joy:

Like, no one even SAYS “cellular” anymore.

I agree, I mostly love reality show stories. Especially Galactic Game

Lmao, agreed with pretty much everything you said. Great list of all the awful cliches I hate! Also, annoying stereotyping ‘love expert’ best friends who can only say ‘OMG’ ‘he’s hot’ and ‘bestie!!!’

Oh god the “cellular phone” bit made me laugh so much. I’ve seen things like “I try to find her, but without success!”

Like, just say: “I tried to look for her, but I failed!” Or something like that. I’ve also seen something like “I am your bestest friend from the old past.” Like seriously? “bestest” isn’t even a word. And maybe say something like “I used to be your best friend. Remember?” Ughhh

From the old past is even worse than “bestest” for me :joy::joy::joy:
