Long story short: I don’t plan mine.

Well, okay, I do. But not much. I use Google Keep to keep track of helpful templates, character cards, other important details, etc. I plan in my head. And that’s pretty much it. Oh, and I occasionally use a Google doc template for planning made by @scarlettm

One tip I have is plan a lot, but don’t plan to a point where you’re stressing yourself out. That’s when it’s too much… and that’s it! I know I’m probably not very helpful

Yes, I honestly tend to overplan when I’m first coming up with an idea, but then I stress and end up changing 50% of the story. It’s hard at first, but once you start writing it gets a bit easier… until you hit writer’s block. But that’s a totally different story.

Btw, as @juliewrites mentioned, I do have a few planning docs and stuff, so if you’d like to use them, join this classroom and you can access them:

Thank you (: I’m scared that if I don’t plan enough there gonna be gaps in the story :,)

Gaps are prety easy to fill. Usually, there’s a sub-plot, best friend’s romance, family issues, etc. That’s why drama stories never run out of, well, drama.

Yes, we all hit it at some point! :joy:
I’ve quit… 5-6 stories because of lack of ideas. Obviously, others have more motivation than I do. But changing 50% of your story can do that.

I have a pretty solid idea of what I want, so i don’t think I’m going to change my story that much. You’re right about the drama part, this makes things a lot easier. I was talking about gaps in the plot tho :sob: I feel like i’m gonna mess up if i don’t go in detail in the planning.

If you add a drama, it can fill in missing scenes. For example, in one of my never going to be completed stories, there was a part where my MC was going to the theater, but I didn’t want to show the entire play or cut the episode too short, so I added her best friend having trouble with her boyfriend to fill in the empty time. Of course, the sub-plot can fill in major storyline gaps as well, like if there’s a part that has less planning done, a well-developed, well-timed subplot can fill in and hide that mistake.

Well, I personally think it depends what kind of a ā€˜learner’ you are, if that makes sense. Like I’m a visual learner and ā€œI have to do it myself in order to understand itā€ kind of a learner. The reason I’m saying ā€œlearnerā€ is supposed to represent the preference that comes easiest for you to remember all your planning. I’ve heard that some writers like writing they’re script in google docs (the ones that plan their story) or others that completely wing-it and jot it down anywhere (which both are perfectly fine btw). I myself have a cork white/white board above my desk I’m sitting at right now and I write down ideas that come to mind for me to later type into my ā€œNotesā€ app in my phone. I’ve actually once woken up at 3 AM in the morning to write down an idea I came up with while I was about to go to sleep :sob::joy: Yeah, talk about commitment right? 🄸 Anyway my point is I think there should be a designated area, whether it is google docs, a tiny planning whiteboard, your Notes app, or simply a journal where you write down anything that comes to mind. ā€œ1 stupid word could lead to 1 whole storyā€ is my motto:joy::joy: -I speak from experience (I’m here saying this because I’m planning my 5th story and haven’t even completed my first episode for my first story :skull:) anywayyy! Good luck & my apologies for rambling :woman_facepalming:t4::joy:

Everyone is different when it comes to writing. Some plan, some write as they go. It honestly just depends on you. My suggestion would be when you have an idea for a story, write it down. It could be a detailed idea or a partial idea. Having any ideas or details written down will help you plan your story better. Organization is key to planning and/or writing.

Personally, I write down ideas first then rearrange them that would make sense for an episode (hopefully that made sense). After that, I would move to dialogue. I tend to write the dialogue out first before going on the portal, because all I have to do is copy and paste it. I plan my stories the way that works for me.

Just find a way that works for you. If you want to feel more organized, write the ideas down. If you just want to write as you go, write as you go.

Hopefully this helps!

It really depends on the category you write your story in.

If you write a comedy that’s based on a very similar world that we live in, you already have a basis for cultures, standards and places etc.

However if you write fantasy or sci-fi you’ll need to build a whole world. You don’t need to but it really adds and helps your story. Building such a background to base your story on will take A LOT of time.

In any case it’s always best to at least have a basis for your story with knowledge about the cultures, places etc that you’ll use. They can also help you write more in depth and less superficial.

Thank you (: I’ll try planning out some of the dialogue, I think this will help me get started (:

It’s a romance story but there are a few things that are fantasy-like? But I already have most of that figured out (: Ty for the help!
