Hi, there. So, I am trying to write a romance story, and there will be a mean girl. Can someone give me an idea of why the mean girl will be mean to the MC?

There can be multiple reasons:
*She was actually the MC half sister and she blames the mc for her parents divorce and her father leaving her for the mc’s mom
*Someone in the mc’s family accidentally (or not) killed the mean girl simbling
*Jealousy (Every story has this has a reason so I wouldn’t use it)

There can even be more plot twists once you got more information about the story. Like when I plan a story down I don’t really have many plot twists in mind

a reason can be hard to find. but glad you try find one, nothing is worse than when MC hates you for no reason
depending on the story plot. if MC is new at the school maybe they went to a school toghter years ago and MC was evil towards her back then
maybe they used to be friend and something happened, it can be many things.
in braceface mean girl though she had ruin all her dolls, many years later find out she didnt
there is also a Disney movie called 16 wishes where MC had stolen Mean girls best friend

The MC and mean girl have a history of a rivalry. That may be a rivalry to get onto the same sports team, beating each other at something (at school or a job), or they’re both trying excel academically or be popular for some reason.
Maybe the MC unintentionally did something in the past that caused tension between the mean girl and the mean girl’s family or friends.
Maybe people are comparing the mean girl to the MC, so the MC wants that to stop and to become better than the MC.

In that case he is A cheating bastard which may lead to the mc having ot decide if she should tell her mom or stay quiet and this might affect the end of the story

but dont let the readers know at the start. let them think they are love interest.

Unless they are cousins and sisters. What if the mc’s mom had a twin sister that was in love of the mc’s dad so she pretended to be the mc’s mom and slept with the dad and that’s why they got pregnant at the same time? So the mean girl is the daughter of the twin, but the dad sometimes sends them money because he feels pity, and the mean girl hates the mc because her mom told her a like like that the mc’s dad and her were together and her twin sister (the mc’s mom) stole her boyfriend and left her pregnant, so the mean girl thinks that and hates the mc. It would be hella weird and so hard to explain ahahhaahahahahha
Edit: but that would be a good plot tho, if someone uses this credit ahahahah (and if someone wants more of my crazy theories, feel free to ask!)

If you wanna think about it psychologically, people bully due to insecurities, needing of power, self reassurance and self-esteem, or jealousy, or they were never raised right.
A person could bully because their parents probably never gave them the attention, so they bully to feel powerful and to feel like they have something. Maybe it could be the way her parents raised her?
