This definition varies between different people, but for me a story has advanced directing when it:
- uses spots for characters other than screen left/screen center/screen right
- uses layers correctly so characters aren’t on top of each other when they aren’t supposed to
- has overlays with certain layers so characters walk behind/in front of them
- has people walk in correctly and not slide in
- zooms centered well and not all janky, maybe within a certain time or instantly
- overlays animated decently (rotating, sliding, fading, scaling, etc.)
- transitions between scenes
- use of props properly
- tappable overlays if you’re really advanced
