A dogs life is more important than my job. If my boss is humane they’ll understand. Either way the dog might be a stray and I can keep it and take care of the dog! :))

On and off can mean many things, you can have a good relationship with someone, but be on and off because of certain reasons, such a travel distance, jobs, things going on. It’s not impossible.
