I can’t remember ever getting in trouble for anything that wasn’t a class punishment lol. And even then, the teacher would sit us all down, reflect for a moment, and say: “Okay, Scarlet, Tom, Fred, and Jane can go, they weren’t being disruptive.” 
I have a scene in one of my stories like this, the character she's talking to responds with something like this:
On the big scale, our lives don’t matter. Gandhi doesn’t matter, Einstein doesn’t matter, George Washington doesn’t matter, humankind doesn’t matter, nor does the planet, the solar system, the galaxy… But on smaller scales, it all comes back into focus. In the last two hundred years, Gandhi and everyone do matter. Right now, the people and the memories matter. And right here, on this bench, at this second, we’re the only things that matter.
