I saw once a line that said ‘u have the body of Kim K but I can tell u didn’t buy those curves.’ NO! Girls r not born like that. We r not born w enormous unnatural curves like that. In the way guys r not naturally extremely muscular. Especially rich city lawyers
y? Bc they work extremely long hrs they don’t have time to work out. And most teenaged girl don’t have time to work out sm that they’re a v obvious hourglass. Bc they just don’t. Can we stop maning our characters unnaturally ‘attractive’ sm that we’re comparing them to celebrities who have implants. Bc the generic female body is a usual shape for a female as is the soft body, as is the plus size as is the athletic. And there is a reason that there is no extreme curve body because it is not natural! But pls stop giving ur teen characters athletic bodies unless they literally spend all their time in the gym. Ty for this thread, rant over :tipping_hand_woman:t3:

Yes and a lot of the time it’s like every character in a story looks the same, same body shape, same features. The LI kissing his girlfriend and it’s like  dude isn’t that your sister or cousin or sum’n? Or the mean girl ‘insulting’ the MC. Wha- I thought you were identical twins what you roasting B?

I would have to agree with the first few lines you mentioned, especially with the nerdy shy teen boy who just happens to be extremely muscular. I’m not very fond of that either as that’s very unrealistic. Even from what I remember when I was in high school the most muscular boys in school were definitely not like how they’re portrayed here on Episode. Even the average adult male doesn’t look that muscular and toned.

Thank you :joy: I’ve been thinking about this quite a while, too. I hate that a lot of people on Episode have been reinforcing beauty standards that can be toxic. I hardly ever see anyone use the soft or the thin bodies for the male LI ever. And there’s countless other things I could point out as well. . .

The oversaturated representation of the “ideal” body is toxic, and we should really try to fix it, but I really doubt people even care tbh.

Agreed. Every Character that is considered beautiful or handsome in the story have the same features. No diversity. And i’m not saying those features aren’t beautiful, but representation is important.

Like yeah, some teens have natural curve, but not Kim K curves-

Exactly. You don’t have to fit into one type of beautiful.

Lol yes!!! The 6 pack bugs me too. The only guy I have with a 6 pack is the fitness trainer and the one who works out a lot.
I have one LI who is “short and scrawny”, about 5’8 (average?)
The other one is in good shape and even he doesn’t have it. He’s a runner and a swimmer.
My one MC has the soft body shape.

GAP TOOTH- YES- I completely agree with you but I can see why people choose “better” looking people. You go on this app to escape reality filled with people with those perfect imperfections. I am not trying to say that if they don’t fit into the stereotyped “standard”, they are ugly or anything but this is all fictional- if they wanted something realistic, they should get off the phone for once.

I am not in any way trying to offend anybody. pls n thank u

I agree! I’m not sure why authors tend to make all the characters “pretty” and “hot”, I mean
even the background characters tend to have the same features. I think diversity is really important in a story, and it’s okay for a character to have unique features and body types.
My male MC is more slim/less muscular even though he goes to the gym. Not everyone can gain weight fast, nor can everyone build muscle easily (especially with males)

This isn’t what I’m saying. Episode is trying to make things realistic, they have upgraded to Limelight as it’s a more realistic style and as @syrinix wrote- representation is important.
Of course people have their own views and can create characters the way they like on episode but I don’t like how in romance stories they’re kind of enforced on young viewers as the ‘optimal’ features and can cause insecurities. I don’t think many authors are going for an unrealistic effect either. However it is good to know that muscle building in adolescents can be unsafe and it’s important to give the body rest.

I don’t mean to say your opinion isn’t valid as I appreciate your insight into the subject but I am just reinforcing my own. No harsh feelings.

I completely understand where you come from and I agree- But those stories are all fictional. I know what you mean by creating insecurities too.

I mean- I’ve had those insecurities before (Honestly- with those good of characters who wouldn’t?) but it’s really for the person themselves to look past that.

I mean let’s be honest, even her curves aren’t natural

I myself prefer the muscular type but I see your point. It would be great to see more LI that are out of our comfort zones and use body types other than the muscular ones because a lot of people do not have them. This beauty standard is why my LI is going to be plus size.

The stories are fictional, yes, but there is still the realism of having regular people. Especially background characters. Someone had mentioned that even the extras are set in that same standard.

I once had a girlfriend point to Jean Claude van Damme and ask me “Why can’t you look like that?” to which I replied, “Because I don’t work out for 8 hours a day.”

I did have a period where I was lifting weights and trying to change my body shape, but the best I ever managed was the default Generic Male body type.

I’ve posted before about wishing there were more body type options for men (and women too. The bust, for instance is always the same size no matter what the rest of them is like, which is unrealistic.).

Yeah, in my story the MC is a guy. But I’ve given him a soft body. I prefer more of the average look on men.

Are you only talking about the bust size for men or both men and women? Because if it’s the men, the I agree with that as well. Even though the men have “different body types”, they’re still the same. You can’t tell if a guy is muscular or not with their clothes on

Exactly! Even if your MC and LI are supposed to be gorgeous, the rest of the world shouldn’t be.
