Our sixth story for our Community Book Club was reviewed nine people, and all the scores will be an average. The book was…

This story was recommended by @Annieways!

First Impression (Cover/title/summary)

Rating: 3.91
The first impression was: “Man, I have to read this story immediately!” The cover, the title and description all grabbed my attention, great job. How this story doesn’t have more reads. The title is different and unique, nothing cliche, the cover is attractive and creative, and the summary is pretty interesting.

Though the cover looks fantastic, there are two things are off-putting about the summary. That’s the incorrect grammar, which disappoints this particular reader, and the fact that it’s a high school story like most of the stories on this app. Another thought that if the description was kind of different then it would have been better and felt there was something missing. As the cover doesn’t give much of the story.

The story (Content and Flow)

Rating: 4.44
The story is full of twists and drama, the dialogue is funny and well-written. Great pacing that keeps the reader hooked through many chapters. The content is so amazing that you can’t stop reading it. Not too fast, not too slow.

One disgruntled reviewer: Let’s start off by embracing the cliched “perfect and popular” (also blonde and loves pink) character have a perfect life until the day the story starts. The 80s time-travel part seemed cool but completely predictable.

Characters

Rating: 4.06
The characters are hilarious and loveable. The character development is one of the favourites on Episode, and the love interest is a nerd! YAY! They were developed, had different voices, and diverse in sense of personality. They change as the story progresses.
Whilst the MC is hard to like at first, there’s so much room for growth. You grow to love her as the story continues and it’s nice to watch her development.

One disgruntled reviewer: Token “black” popular friend, the populars, “it” couple, freaks, nerds… stereotypes are really boring. Why must we continue to endure stories with them in it?! Diversity and wall-breaking are needed to even attempt to make a change in Episode stories today. Another said that there was little to no diversity.

Visually (The directing)

Rating: 3.91
The directing is not super advanced but it’s really good and nearly flawless. The story may not contain fancy overlays but has everything a comedy needs. In the later episodes, I feel it gets very professional and advanced.

One disgruntled reviewer: It can be possible, but not many high school girls are taller than their teachers. At least not ones in stories. Watch out for layering and spot positioning, so characters don’t look like they’re standing on each other’s feet. Also, scenes seem a little boring when you just have three characters standing side by side at zoom reset. Try to get a little more intricate with your directing. … Another said that the characters in the first scene could be spread out a little more when they are talking. When Amber and Daphne move over to the four characters, they have all suddenly moved place? The staging is a little off.

Language (Grammar)

Rating: 4.26
Not many grammar errors. The author often confused “to” with “too.” There was “yeh” instead “you” a few times. There were quite a few misplaced apostrophes. There’s a couple of typos in each episode. A few grammar and punctuation mistakes too. It doesn’t make it hard to understand though.

One disgruntled reviewer: Beaches? Really? Yeah because that’s a thing people say. It’s an attempt at a joke that just makes people groan. Commas are needed in this story, as well as some rechecking to make sure the wrong word isn’t used.

Choices

Rating: 2.63
There were like 3 choices and like 4 dressing games in the span of what one reader read. Although not having choices made the characters seem more realistic, choices once in a while would’ve been nice. It’s called Episode Interactive for a reason, for the reader to interact. More choices are needed so the reader feels involved. The choices there didn’t really impact the storyline very much, but many didn’t enjoy the story any less just because of the lack of choices.

7-8 was the average number of episodes read by the nine reviewers.

How this story doesn’t have more reads?! I loved it. It was pretty different in terms of plot and characters. The author clearly planned this story and has a great way of keeping the readers’ attention. Yeah, it’s not perfect, but no story is perfect either way. The plot twists are not something to ever see coming and they really have no idea how this could end, so are looking forward to seeing it play out.

The one disgruntled reviewer apologies because it is way too cliché for them!

Final Book Club score is … 3.87

Dang, I just read all the reviews and think “look at this, my story will NOT survive all the critiques,” but I also like reading the reviews because no one’s story is perfect and even if they seem “perfect” you can’t please everybody. Plus, improvement is always key. cries in Spanish when/if her story meets the fate of being reviewed.

Exactly, never a truer word was spoken. No one is perfect and we can all improve, but there is never a greater criticiser than yourself (at least in my own case)!

Our seventh story for our Community Book Club was reviewed seven people, and all the scores will be an average. The book was…

This story was recommended by @Rileyjohannes!

First Impression (Cover/title/summary)

Rating: 4.44
A reader was so thankful for the author for breaking the stereotype of bad boys, showing that girls can be bad too, so the first impression was pretty good.
Though the covers are designed well and attracted the eye, and the summary explains the story well enough, though one reader was still not interested in this type of story. Another loved the covers but felt the description seemed rather unspectacular. Honestly, the title and cover felt very cliche.

The story (Content and Flow)

Rating: 4.13
The content was actually really good, even though it only had 4 chapters, I can see this story going in a good direction. Another said, “THIS IS MY FAV STORY EVER (CURRENTLY)” The content was nothing like they have ever seen or read before.
The story was ok, but it felt very fast and slow moving at the same time. Sometimes a scene would happen and the reader wouldn’t know how they got there. Sometimes scenes dragged on for too long. Ron and Evelyn could have had more of an introduction and some more sass from people. It was a little choppy in a few places and I would recommend adding transitions.

One disgruntled reader: No, no, no, why on Earth are you starting with an author note? ABORT ABORT! It’s just NOT necessary. I really hate screenshot messages in the middle of the story. If you’re going to have one to two MCs then stick to that, we don’t need to hear the thoughts of all the secondary characters too. The pace was okay, though chapter one ends really abruptly. It should fade out, not just be cut.

Characters

Rating: 4.29
The characters were hilarious, badass, and full of sarcasm, even the bad girl was pretty likeably too. The female MC (bad girl) has a pretty attractive personality since they guessed she was going to be really rude but she’s just a badass with a lot of sarcasm. The male MC is a really flirtatious guy. Every character is totally relatable and the MC is happy-go-lucky!

One disgruntled reader: The main character is funny and sarcastic, and that’s cool, but who is Ricky, you need to say who he is? If he’s a brother, then where are they and why isn’t Evelyn with him? Also, why would Principal run after her, that’s just weird? Teachers don’t sound/act like teachers, they’re like whiney children. The first conversation between Evelyn and Charlie was just odd. Realising they were meant to be snappy with each other, it just came across disjointed.

Another reader: I was very happy with the intro of characters in the beginning, though I have a bunch to say. There were not many background characters, and I would love to know what happened to the dad. The only time background characters mattered was in school scenes. Even then, I would love to see more. I’m not happy with Ron. He felt too cliche and fake. I loved Evelyn’s attitude though. Diversity was not that great. I want to see more people of colour and them showing off their ethnicities and being proud of them. Most characters we did not get to see a lot of. I want more juicy introductions. I want to see a variety of religions and cultures and how they play a part. Why does Evelyn do these things? Does she have values? It wasn’t that bad in the end.

Visually (The directing)

Rating: 4.66
The directing is super advanced. The phone overlay scene in the beginning absolutely blew my mind away. Visuals are really pretty, and overlays are on point.

The character credits was pretty cool. Though some more variety in scenes (with close-ups) would be nice, along with aligning some of the speech bubbles to the character speaking. … It wasn’t too bad, more transitions for sure. The overlays in the intro were on point, it was a good way for us to get basics on characters. Wish it had more info though.

Language (Grammar)

Rating: 4.12
Some spelling mistakes and grammar mistakes were happening throughout the story, but it didn’t really bother me. The vocabulary isn’t that advanced, but it’s not a problem throughout the story. Pretty good, just occasionally some punctuation missing at the end of sentences and the wrong tenses.

Choices

Rating: 2.14
Choices? Where? A partial CC is not really a choice. So there aren’t many/any choices since the story only has 4 chapters and the drama hasn’t happened yet, but it would be great if the author adds some choices.

One reader: There were no choices in the first chapter. This bugs me since I really like when there are choices. Choices make me want to read more, be in the story’s grasp. They make the ending fun and different. I like to see what I choose and how it affects the story’s outcome.

2-3 was the average number of episodes read by the seven reviewers.

The overall opinion of this story is THIS STORY IS BOMB. I can already see it going big, the characters have really unique personalities. Just put a few choices and background stories of the characters and all will be perfect. It’s hilarious and the author has a good sense of humour. The bad girl in this story is confident and doesn’t immediately fall in love. It’s one of the rarest love-hate relationships you can see in Episode. They’ll definitely keep reading because the author got my attention with those first episodes!

Two readers thought that the story needs a little adjust before they can continue.

Final Book Club score is … 4.03

Nah, I don’t want to disappear (and if I did, it wouldn’t be for good), as I have good friends on here and there are good people. I’m just not in the best frame of mind in real life, which is affecting everything, including my focus on forums.
