♥ the ranting thread. (V2) ♥

I kinda agree with you. What you’re saying really makes sense. And I remember at my old school, it was extremely racially segregated. Not by law but just by the students. It was weird. All the Asian kids hung out together and all the white kids hung out together and all the African American kids hung out together. It was quite strange. Yet, I am mixed but most people think I’m white. The white kids were always talking about things I couldn’t relate to. They always told me to hang out with them but there were 3 Pakistani kids who did talk about stuff I knew, Pakistan politics and cricket and such. And I remember one day trying to sit with them and talk with them about that stuff and all they said was “there’s no way your Pakistani” essentially because I ‘Look white’ how does someone look a race? It just really pisses me off because why does it even matter. Like. The white kids were saying stuff like “ok if Johnny tries to hit Rose again, we have to fight back” but when Johnny was picking on one of the Asian kids, Juliana, they didn’t want anything to do with it. Why do races have to stick together. Why can’t it be so instead of sticking together by race, stick together with other people who would stick by you. This is my opinion and probably made no sense but eh.

That’s really sad. That must have been rough.
Race-based cliques. Yeesh.

My sister has a mulatto friend who is blonde, and when she went to this African American heritage deal once, people were mean to her and treated her as if she was intruding. It’s sad how catty people get over stupid things like that.

I’m not American, and I’m super confused about how people label ‘races’ in the US.

Americans honestly treat race a little differently it’s not just a social class like some other countries and here it’s mainly like the color of someone’s skin honestly. People don’t even fully look at their heritage, at least not where I’m from. For example, I’m black and here where I’m at if you’re black you odviously like fried chicken, watermelon, and corn bread. I’m probably from the south, and my ancestors were more then likely from Africa. But not just me ever black race that’s what would go through some people’s head. Or I’m scared of the police and my dad is in prison. Just mainly there’s certain thing with skin colors that make people label them. For their race anyways it’s really stupid honestly.

I can honestly relate to this. Being a Hispanic in America means that either you or your parent is an illegal immigrant. Or that you can’t read and write in English. Or that you know how to speak Spanish. When someone speaks Spanish,a light bulb goes off in people’s heads that automatically assume we are from a different country. That all people of color are apart of a gang or have down drugs or don’t have the mental capability to do big things in life. Calling a Hispanic person ‘chollo/cholla’ (or a Mexican person ‘beaner’) is the equivalent to calling an African American person n*gga, this may or may not be offensive to the person you are talking to but all I’m saying is to choose your words carefully before assuming someone’s heritage. It’s totally to fine to ask someone where they’re from before assuming their ethnicity/heritage/nationality. I don’t speak for all Hispanic/Latino people out there with this mini rant, just demonstrating how I’d feel if I witnessed this happen.

Thanks for listening :ear:

So frickin true I hate having to explain that I don’t come from Africa and me and my siblings all have the same dad it’s honestly tiresome dealing with it. But yeah all those stereotypes are so stupid

Sometimes you just have to talk to someone and if they listen and be there for you. You know they are your friend.

I agree with you. In my school, most races hang out together. The Jamaicans with each other. The Mexicanos/Mexicanas with each other. The Muslims with each other. And so on…

As a Black Muslim, in America, I’m seen as a ratchet whore, a dropout, or a terrorist. Race doesn’t exist. The concept itself is stupid. And the people who refuse to believe it are idiots. And don’t assume people’s races, or say, “you sound like a _”. It’s not only offensive, it’s just idiotic. I’m sick of explaining to people that I’m not Hispanic, White, or Asian. Jeez.

And colorism is bullshit.

Yeah it’s happened to me MANY times. It’s why I don’t really try so hard to give as much advice as I used to.

At this point it’s exhausting

Yea but at least this thread exists for us to let it all go and not let things go unsaid.
